Impeachment is supposed to be a remedy to remove an official for misconduct in his present position.

It seems all the allegations against Joe Biden are prior to his being President, some are more than 10 years old.

So it's a sham to begin with and makes a mockery of the Constitutional provision.

Apparently Gaetz was the deciding vote that allowed McCarthy to become speaker of the House after blocking him until he promised to do certain things. Since McCarthy reneged on his promise I understand why Gaetz is upset.

So if a president committed murder 20 years before he took office and it just was brought to light he couldn't be impeached?

The Constitution says "Treason, Bribery and other High Crimes and Misdemeanors."

"High crimes and Misdemeanors" had a specific meaning at the time of the Constitutional Convention; it referred to misconduct in office (which didn't necessarily mean violations of the Criminal law). Removal from office is a remedy for misconduct in that office, not a blank check to judge anything the office holder did in his life.

Trump was impeached for misconduct in office; specifically for withholding Congressionally authorized aid to Ukraine until that country started an investigation of a political rival.
