I've heard of this happening quite a bit. This gets on my nerves. Some i think have said that the lobster doesn't feel any pain? I don't see how it couldn't. I am against it; i don't feel anything, person or animal should die/suffer that way.

Sincerely, Pavlo.

p.s. i've heard that when the lobster is being boiled alive there is this sound that resembles a scream but someone said that is just the air being released. or something like that. I think it is hurting and i am upset with the continual practice of this.

Maybe if enough people write their senators or the President and say that they are against the torturing of animals like this; that may help i hope. ๐Ÿ™‚

I seriously doubt it. Most senators and possibly the president love their lobster just as it is.

I know I don't.

I have a very difficult time coming to a decision on animal rights. I've always loved animals and always had pets. Dogs, cats, birds, fish, I even had a pet rooster as a kid. No kidding. It's depressing to see the conditions some animals are kept in just so they can be fattened up and slaughtered.

On the other hand they're just so damn tasty.

The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but rather, "Can they suffer?"

Oops. I just rec'd KellyJay's post. Well, he deserves a rec on general principles.

I don't like boiling lobsters alive either. Is there some way to kill it right before?

A spike through the head from the back is the best way apparently.

Mussels are also cooked alive. In fact, if they are dead before they are cooked, they will taste absolutely horrendous.

I sโ€™pose it would be painful for a second or two. I have watched seagulls tear apart horseshoe crabs on the beach one limb at a time over a twenty minute session, and that looked like no picnic either. You ever watched a lioness hang from the throat of her catch?
What would be the best way to kill a lobster? Lethal injection, clubbing, slit their throats, electrocution, firing squad, etc.

Not to change the subject but, what about pesticides for bugs and rodents? They sit and burn and choke to death with that stuff.

My father in law, a pretty good chef (French) boils them alive. I recall reading an article where it mentioned a device to kill the lobster as fast as possible through electricution if I'm not mistaken.

Needless to say, I think we should attempt to do the lobster as little pain as possible. Whether this is through chopping their heads off, putting in boiling water or forcing them to look at Shavimere's posts on RHP.

Either way, I do believe they feel pain. I can hardly imagine any complex creature not being able to have developed such an evolutionary trait as pain.

Do my eyes deceive me? Pain -- an evolved trait? You no longer maintain that it was bestowed by God upon a painless world as punishment for Eve's sin? Surely if lobsters feel pain, it's only because God made them that way to atone for the bitten apple.

Seagulls aren't smart enough to do otherwise. Lionesses either.

There aren't any effective alternatives to pesticides that I know of.
