Christa Pike, who survived two doses of a lethal injection drug last week during a botched execution in Tennessee, is conscious and speaking, her lawyers said in a statement on Tuesday.
Ms. Pike continues to receive critical medical care at a Nashville hospital, the lawyers said. The prognosis remains unclear, they said, but they expect a long recovery.
“Christa is a survivor and will take recovery one day at a time,” the lawyers said.
From the article:
Her lawyers had argued against lethal injection, saying it would be particularly painful and traumatic given her history of childhood sexual trauma and medical conditions that led to smaller veins. Her request for hanging as the execution method, as well as her warnings over the lethal injection process, were dismissed in court and by the state.
Good case for a lawsuit.
Few things are more grim than pleading in court to be hanged.
@vivify saidOnly in America. And the US prides itself as being so muc more humane compared to Sharia law in Muslim countries.

@AThousandYoung saidWe were torturing her.
I thought Republicans were supposed to be good at killing people.
Just inject her with fentanyl which is apparently ubiquitous and cheap and kills people painlessly all the time.
And we will continue.
@AThousandYoung saidThe failure rate for firing squads is zero. In another thread, I linked to a website which indicates the failure rate for each method in America going back more than 100 years.
These incompetent pendejos would probably just clip her ears off if they tried
@shavixmir saidThey didn't you can read a lot about bothced killimgs by them if you care to do so.
Seemingly 1 in 3 executions are botched to some degree.
Barbaric.
Say what you will about the nazis, they at least knew how to execute people.
Too soon?
@vivify saidCan you imagine what her first thoughts were?

The last thing she knew she was on a gurney with drugs being delivered to her veins. She's expected to die. Then she wakes up.
You think her first throughts were "Why does the afterlife look like a hospital room"?
