@earl-of-trumps saidThe article cited says in several places that even this report concludes "that COVID19 wasn't the result of a Chinese biological weapons program."
Can anybody think of a good reason why gain of function to a virus should even be carried out?
Aliens, relax. The homo sapiens will destroy themselves yet.
@shavixmir saidYes because the odds are good that nature would make the virus in a wet market next to a lab that was studying the virus. Also known as the epicenter.
It doesn’t matter what the email states.
Where’s the proof? Emails? Whatever.
None.
Hence the conclusion it was nature.
Are you stupid or joking?
The lab theory was initially dismissed because it was pushed by a guy who called global warming a "Chinese hoax", said windmills cause cancer, stared at the sun during an eclipse and pondered injecting disinfectant to kill COVID.
That's still no reason to dismiss the theory now that multiple independent agencies and scientists see valid reasons for this to be the case.
@vivify saidThey don’t though.

There is 0 proof of a lab leak or of Covid-19 existing in a lab prior to the pandemic; every major organisation that’s looked into it concludes that the chances of it being zoonosis is much greater than being a lab leak.
In fact, it’s really only in the US there’s a group of hard-core lab theory supporters. Probably some anti-Chinese politics involved there.
Most of these diseases come from animals to humans. It really is the most likely situation.
@shavixmir saidI agree. The Energy Department reported the lab leak with "low confidence" (their exact words) in that possibility. So even the source of this report is skeptical.
They don’t though.

All I'm saying is that just because something was initially believed by dishonest conspiracy theorists, that doesn't mean we should dismiss any credible evidence of something.
For example: Trump wanted to build a wall to keep Mexicans out. Just because his reasons for doing so were racist doesn't mean we shouldn't fortify our borders. There's this annoying tendency of liberals to automatically believe in the exact opposite of anything supported by conservatives.
@vivify saidAnd vice versa.

@vivify saidAgreed. But there is no credible evidence to back up their argument.

There usually isn’t. That’s the whole point.
@shavixmir saidThe proof is in the email exchange between Fauci and Collins. Fauci funded gain of function research at the Wuhan lab.

Baric also did alter the SARS virus here in the USA which can be proven because he holds a patent on it. He cannot get a patent without proof of work. The patent itself is proof he accomplished that.

Where is the missing link to nature?
@shavixmir saidThat is not true.
They don’t though.

How did Ralph Baric obtain a patent for it? There is 0 proof of a natural origin. After 3 years they have found nothing. Like something in your brain, there is a missing link nobody can account for.
@no1marauder saidGood question.
What makes the Energy Department a competent investigator of the origins of a disease?
Is this another attempt to demonize China even though Fauci funded the GOF research there?

True true,
But... in the history, no one in China who went into the caves where the bats are ever got this variant of the virus.
somebody tinkered with it.
