If Iraq is as important to us as W says, let's draft a large army and use it to get this war over with. If it's not important enough to have a draft, let's get out of Iraq as soon as possible. In other words, let's do it right or not at all!

Wow, I hope that that was a joke.
As a European who was against the declaration of war in the first place (and still believe it was a pretty silly thing to do), I have to agree with the concept of "Now that it's started, do everything that is necessary to get it finished" Drafts aren't the only option, but whatever is needed to "get the job done" should be done. Not just by the US either I have to say.

Maybe we could recruit Palestinians instead.

Because that's what is meant by, "finishing the job". But for every one you kill you create how many more? Never ending
Originally posted by uzlessSorry, that's not what I meant by finishing the job clearly, but it's not stepped up military action I'm necessarily proposing, moreso a commitment to see it through to the end. The "surge" cannot last indefinitely and came much too late I feel. But a strong military presence will be needed for possibly several decades to come. As long as there is a clear separation between the military troops there and the government.
It can't be finished. Unless you are advocating killing everyone.

It has ended in Northern Ireland for all intents and purposes, through a combined use of military policing and diplomatic reform.
Neither diplomats nor soldiers can do their jobs effectively without the other.
