I'll become a singer and demand to be paid the same as Taylor Swift.

Hmm. Equal pay for equal work, shouldn't all basketball players be paid the same? Or the same per minute played?

Just think how much happier and free we'll all feel when every single person's salary in the US is literally a federal case.
Exactly. I can lay their argument bare or at least make them the supreme hypocrites.

Layshia Clarendon is a star of the New York Liberty and chief complainer about equal pay.

Does anyone think thay Layshia Clarendon is getting the same pay as everyone else in the WNBA?
She likely makes $$Millions but her teammate makes $40K a year,, for doing THE SAME JOB, and working just as hard,

What phonies.

yes they are, it is the quality of their work the warrants the amount paid.
It relates to that but technically, it is the revenue they generate from paid attendance and TV viewership.

So I did some math. HeHum....

The NBA average salary is $7.1 million. ~ The WNBA average salary is $0.1 million.

If you wish to make the two the same, you must give an average raise of $7 million to the women.
There are 12 teams in the WNBA with 12 players per team. 144 players x $7 million is about $1 Billion.

These women have done a lot of b'yotching about this but have they even suggested where this money is supposed to come from??

Take it from the men's pay. you watch. That's what this is leading to.

Just as a side note, several teams in the WNBA cannot survive on their own revenues and generous owners
have to inject cash into the system to keep the team floating and these women with a job.

Can we say, "No good turn goes unpunished"?

and what generates the revenue? the quality of play?

Not in the real world.

Less talented people make more money than more skilled people all the time. Pop stars with limited vocal ranges often make higher incomes than more talented singers or performers. Same with terrible actors compared to skilled ones.

What matters is how much money such people can generate, not the "quality" of their work. If female athletes can generate as much revenue as men, they should be paid the same.
generally not true

Again, is your point that female athletes don't work as hard as the men?
Is your strategy to be obtuse?

Yes, the quality of play, but not always. At one time (not sure about right now) girls
high school basketball games were a more popular draw than the boys in Indiana.

But generally, of course, you are right. The NBA's Development league, or D-League, has many players
working for very very low wages. They make it to the NBA level, their pay jumps big time.

now you are beginning to see the faults with socialism. just as the min wage increase (that you are for) doesnt work for the exact same reasons.
Lol I view myself as a socialist that’s why I don’t really care what people male or female get paid for playing basketball especially if they are all getting at least $100,000. If the owners are ripping them off vis-à-vis their share of the profits then it’s something their agents should be looking at.
I am opposed to low to medium wage women and their labour constantly being valued as less than their male counterparts.
There is a current case in the UK concerning the ASDA supermarket chain paying their predominantly female shop floor workers less than their predominantly male warehouse workers. The courts have given the women the go ahead in that if they successfully argue that their labour is of equal worth then they win their case and ASDA will have to pay them the same. I’ve worked in a warehouse and I see how hard the shop floor staff work and I don’t think that there is a reasonable argument against equal pay in this case.

You are correct, of course.
Did you ever see a minor league team be more popular and draw more revenue than the major league team?

Look at how much they charge spectators at men's tennis and golf tournaments and compare that to how much they pay at women's events.

That will tell you what you need to know. People simply will not pay as much to see women play golf, tennis, etc. as they would men.
And there is a damm good reason for it, the women are not as good!

After the women's national soccer team won the world championship a couple years ago, they did a scrimmage game
with a Dallas male U15 team (under 15 years of age). The boys beat the "world champion" women 6-2.

talk to me.

Anybody want to take a crack at this...?

The WNBA needs to come up with about $$1 Billion in wages for these WNBA women to make things "equal".

Where do the owners get the money??

Would you rather watch hairy men playing sport or sexy women with jiggly bits?

Basically, if you prefer the former, you’re obviously closet gay.

And if it was up to me I’d pay the women more (because I prefer to watch them than men), but if everyone sported naked, they could all get paid equally.
