If the owners are ripping them off vis-à-vis their share of the profits then it’s something their agents should be looking at.
Well, Kev, it turns out the owners are keeping the league alive via subsidies.

HOW MUCH REVENUE DOES THE WNBA GENERATE?
The WNBA generates revenues of $60 million annually, but it also has costs in excess of $70 million annually. So, the WNBA does not make money. It has turned an average $10 million net loss (revenue – costs) per year, since its inception in 1996.
One of the main reasons that the WNBA remains in existence is that it is subsidized by the NBA, which are able to sustain this $10 million loss every year.

The more I see the evidences, the more I think these ingrates need a dopeslap.
@earl-of-trumps saidAnd I bet the girls teams had a winning season while the boys lost more than they won. Went through that myself as I had two daughters that played in high school, one was on a state championship team. They had a large following, grew larger the farther they advanced in the tournament. What you are referring to a bandwagon riders, not there because they are fans, they want to be part of a winning team. No doubt if they plated the loser boys team the boys would have crushed them.
Yes, the quality of play, but not always. At one time (not sure about right now) girls
high school basketball games were a more popular draw than the boys in Indiana.
But generally, of course, you are right. The NBA's Development league, or D-League, has many players
working for very very low wages. They make it to the NBA level, their pay jumps big time.
@earl-of-trumps said"Does anyone think thay Layshia Clarendon is getting the same pay as everyone else in the WNBA?
Exactly. I can lay their argument bare or at least make them the supreme hypocrites.
Layshia Clarendon is a star of the New York Liberty and chief complainer about equal pay.
Does anyone think thay Layshia Clarendon is getting the same pay as everyone else in the WNBA?
She likely makes $$Millions but her teammate makes $40K a year,, for doing THE SAME JOB, and working just as hard,
What phonies.
She likely makes $$Millions but her teammate makes $40K a year,, for doing THE SAME JOB, and working just as hard,'
Do you think that has anything to do with the quality of her play?
@earl-of-trumps saidAnd sponsorship, which is proportional to bums on seats and TV audience.
It relates to that but technically, it is the revenue they generate from paid attendance and TV viewership.
Edit: The day that Nike and Adidas think they will sell more footware to women than men because of a particular women's league and individual stars become the must have posters on 6 year old girls walls, is the day that women get paid in the 7mil per player range.
@mott-the-hoople saidOf course her higher pay (compared to her teammates) has to do with talent. But it is all relative.

Notice Layshia Clarendon did not make it into the NBA. Neither did my daughter. Say no more?
With all the muck this "equal pay" issue in the WNBA and Women's soccer has raised over many years,
I have yet to find it written by anyone, just where these women think the money is going to come from.
Let's leave the Women's National soccer team out of this for the moment, as they are tied to the hip
with the men's national soccer team, where that is not true for the WNBA/NBA.
With that said:
--------------------
For things to made "FAIR" in the WNBA, as shown before in this thread, the WNBA league must give raises
to their women players so that they are paid as much as men basketball players in the NBA.
It was shown to be that each of the 144 WNBA women receive a $7 million dollar raise,
an amount that would cost the league 144 x 7M = $$1 Billion+.
WOULD ANYBODY CARE TO SPECULATE WHERE THIS $$1 Billion WILL COME FROM?
thank you.
PS: I still say these PC moneygrubbers will get the money, I just don't know from WHO and how.

I think,
A little bit of calculating here...
One of the links in here says the WNBA league owners subsidize the league with $10 Million per year, due to losses.
Now lets see... 10 Mill/144 = $69.4K per player.
So, the average salary of a WNBA player is $100K, of which, $69.4K comes from the pockets of the owners.
😲 😲 😲 🙄 🙄
And yet they complain 😕
