Is Europe like an old woman who, with shaking hands, frantically hides her last pieces of jewelry when she notices a robber breaking into a neighbor's house?

More like an old lady who, with shaking hands, tries to make a cup of tea for the poor traveler. It might no be much, but it's better than nothing.

An I suppose that in this analogy, the US is the old woman that clubs her neigbour over the head and steals the jewelery.

The person that posted this article seems to think that because it comes out of europe, it is a sort of vindication of the 'war'. There are stupid people in Germany too, you know.

The grass really is greener on the other side, eh?

Don't fool yourself into the thinking that Bush is at war over ideologies.
Remember we only entered WWII near the end (1942).

We are at war with Iraq supposedly to fight terrorism. A primarily Saudi-driven pursuit (If you could pin it to a specific group). We started our war to kill Osama, but conveniently forgot soon after the first invasion. Then we moved forces into Iraq and killed Sadam (technically he was tried and hung by the UN? but we dug him out of the hole) with no real leadership to replace him with. Now that he's dead, where are we?
Trading fire with no particular group our nation.

But you really need to ask yourself: what good does this war on terror do anyone? All we are doing is feeding their flames with gun fighting.

The real war is an economic one.
As long as we leave their supply lines alone and there will always be more schmucks being paid to recruit children and train them in various countries under no particular flag.

Baader Meinhof bombed these guys for a reason, and it isn't hard to see why.

Best way to close the supply lines is to shut down, or sort out the CIA. Closing supply lines in the case of Iraq increased support for Saddam. War is invariably about resources, no matter how you try and dress it up, that's what it'll come down to in the end. Terrorists will quickly lose local support if the local population has what it wants. Deny resources, or bomb pharmaceutical factories (like the US did pre 9/11) and people will want someone to fight for them.

If anything, isn't the war with Iraq leaving the US even more open to terrorist attack? I'd wager that there are terrorists in countries besides the ones the US is at war against, who will most likely be more than willing to kick them while they exhaust all their resources on a war elsewhere.

I find it interesting that many people make statements like this which seems to make sense. But the passage of time is proving them to be wrong. Yet they will keep saying the same thing.

The war started in 2003 and since that time nobody dared to attack the US again.

The occupation is a legitimate strategy. It shows these fools that we're not the weaklings Saddam tried to make us out to be. However the public should have been told we would occupy Iraq. From what I remember we were told we'd be in and out quickly.

I think 3000+ dead US soldiers and their families will disagree with you.

Yes, because obviously there were so many terrorist attacks before the war started.

Also, if you want to fight america now, you don't have to plan any complicated operation on american soil, going to Iraq to place an IED is a lot easier.

There has been a significant increase in terrorist attacks on traditionally "safe" countries elsewhere though hasn’t there?

And don't you find it funny that the war on terror is actually starting to make al Qaeda stronger?

As opposed to the US being a paranoid, senile dirty old man yelling abuse at everyone and meddling in his neighbours affairs when his own house is crumbling around him?

How is that economy of yours going?

For an American your knowledge of U.S.A. & World History is lacking. Permit me to help.

""Remember we only entered WWII near the end (1942).""

* USA declared war on Japan,Germany,Italy December 1941. Hostilities were finally ended August, 1945.

* WW2 was ongoing 39mos. before USA entered and continued for 44mos afterwards. This doesn't qualify as 'near the end'.

""and killed Sadam (technically he was tried and hung by the UN?""

* UN has not been involved in Saddam's trial...it was an Iraqi court. The entire trial was on the tube. If you have interest in Irag war, surely you watched, or it seems you did not.

Then those traditional 'safe' countries have make themselves more secure then, won't they? If they cant cut it living on a planet that has to fight terrorism then let the pussies find another planet to live on.

The day of the butt lickers appeasing the fundamentalist muslim bullies is over. Get used to it.
