Dealing with men by force and threats of force is not the most productive way. Also there were levels of slavery one might say their salary was garnished (whether they liked it or not) to be be provided with services (whether they liked them or not) not entirely unlike modern taxation.
The similarities are there, the terms are defined the only thing to debate is how much of a slave to goobermint are you today.”
“ Like I said it's only the level that's up for debate, in NZ it's about half your working life, that is to say, no longer 'modest levels of taxation'.
Also to maintain slaves at a level popularised on movies and tv costume dramas (No1's source of history) was in itself very labour intensive, constantly driving, driving, all that whipping, reluctant workers, careless workers, workers with no incentive to do things right the minute your back is turned, add to that food, clothing and housing. All that effort there's not much difference between that and simply doing it yourself.”
Denying the brutality of slavery on an industrial level and pathetically trying to equate its inequity with a modern day PAYE tax system is EXACTLY what an ultra right wing scumbag would do, lo and behold you did EXACTLY that. Your status based on your obvious philosophy isn’t open to debate it’s in the ergo category.
Also note that I’m not talking about you in the third person whilst deluding myself that I have an audience duchess.”

@mott-the-hoople saidKamala is spot on. Slaves can't use "skills" for their "benefit" because....they're slaves.

Allen is the former chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and a key member of Florida’s volunteer African American History Standards Workgroup, which wrote the curriculum. The group worked publicly for a little over two months with the goal of "creating an independent curriculum for African-American history for the first time," and the state added the finishing touches.

^ Therein lies the problem.
Here's the link where you got that from:

Due to Republican presidential candidate, Gov. Ron DeSantis, signing the "Stop WOKE Act" (CS/HB 7) last year, it prohibited any teaching that blocked instruction that suggested anyone was "either privileged or oppressed" based on race or skin color.
Of course. DeSantis also appointed the board members for the curriculum. And there's more:
The article points out that the curriculum conveniently leaves out Florida's role in slavery; a pretty large omission since Florida was a slave state.
And Allen, who you keep bringing up, is also a conservative.
The addition of teaching "personal benefits" of slavery seems to be the Republican-controlled state of Florida infecting the proposed curriculum with their own prejudices.

Finally, yes, yes, yes. Get the state out of the education industry. Carve off the festering wart that is state education, allow parents to keep more of their money so they can choose what suits them and their children best.

He did his job, I guess.
He and they are the token black committee they use to make it appear they are on the up-and-up. Did the FL state government implement all of their recommendations? Or none of them?
"The group worked publicly for a little over two months with the goal of "creating an independent curriculum for African-American history for the first time," and the state added the finishing touches."
Of course, the article doesn't go into exactly what lies constituted those "finishing touches". Probably the FL legislature slathering on the whitewash.
You guys can barely read, I know, but please, stop swallowing down whatever Fox News writes, okay?
@suzianne saidNext you'll; misrepresent the issue, make up some BS, call everyone a liar.
What's next?
A statement explaining how they will begin teaching how the Jews benefited from being killed in the Holocaust? How the Seminole Tribe benefited from being forced to walk to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears?
Based on a long consistent record.
@mott-the-hoople saidVery few slaves learned "skills" beyond manual labor. Most slave states even made it illegal for them to learn how to read.
were slave required to leave behind the skills they acquired?
Imagine asking a rape victim if she learned any new sex positions or gained any loving make tips. Claiming "skills" were learned during the atrocity of slavery is no less abhorrent.
@vivify saidwhy are you dodging the question?

When slaves were freed did the take their knowledge with them?
I know why you are dodging, a correct answer would make you look like a fool.
