What is it with English people and football?

Whenever you meet someone new or there is a lull in the conversation
it's always 'so how do you think X is doing in the Y?'

I've travelled quite a bit and the image people have of England is these
strangely enamored people.

What is it that's so supposedly great about this game?

its the universal sport. The only sport that is played everywhere in the world.

England has the best league in the world... so why should we hide it?

I have meet so many people from all over the world through the love of football. I have become best friends with people who onset would have nothing in common with me, but when we talk about football the diffirences do not matter.

It really is the 'The Beautiful Game'

yes ofcourse...but the tribalism mentality i would say is in the minority. But YES there is that problem

There are a lot more families who go to watch football now then say in the 70s.

true.. but is that not the case throughout the history of mankind?

Football has been taken by some people to mean warfare... flying the english flag in foreign cities.. sad really...

cant argue there. Their is now no connection between the fans and the players.

The prem league players earn more in one week then the majority of fans earn in a whole year and that is as you say "obscene"

But the question is; is that footballs fault? is it the players fault?

Or is it the falut of the society we live in where footballers are regarded (in terms of wages paid) more important then nurses, policemen, fireman and doctors etc.

i would say Sky Tv changed football for ever in england.
The top 4 (liverpool, Arsneal, Man U and Chelsea) are now un-catchable.

the amount of money they earn from the Tv companies and the champions league means that the rest of the clubs just cannot live with them.

All the top players now want to play in the champions league, but to get into the champions league you need to sign the top players. So the same teams play in the champions league year in year out.
