Many communists and radical publications and entitles throughout the 19th and 20th century had the name "Forward" or its foriegn cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (generic name of socialist publications)". The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. "It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist, and other left-winged newspapers and publications," the online encyclopedia explains.
The slogan "Forward!", reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.
The Obama administration campaign released its new campaign slogan Monday in a 7 minute video. The title card has simply the "Forward" with the "O" having the familiar Obama logo from 2008. It will be played at rallies this weekend that mark the Obama re-election campaign's official beginning.
So how many people here don't think that the Obama administration knew about the historical use of the word "Forward!" in political discourse before it they adopted it as their own? My guess is that it is an attempt to appeal to their base, which are essentially socialists and communists. It then has the added bonus of playing with the minds of those on the right.

Oh I am sure its all a mere coincidence whodey.
Even though Barry wrote in his own book that in college he tended to gravitate towards communist student groups and communist professors. I'm sure he has no idea of the significance of the slogan "forward" and the meaning it has for left wing extremist scum.

I guess Mitt Romney will use the term "Backward!" as a slogan to prove that he's the opposite of a communist.

I don't read that much into it. I'm sure it's just another poll-tested slogan that appeals to Democrats (and others) who are tired of Congress' sitting on its hands and not tackling any of the hard issues.
Seriously, how many people in the country do you really think know the connotations you're talking about? Did you know about them, before you read that article?

No, but apparently the Republican way is to run away from anything and everything Democrats propose or enact, even if it was originally a Republican idea.

That is what I thought. Clearly Obama had no clue as to the historically political usuage of the word "Forward". I guess he can plead ignorance.......as usual. 😛
Personally, I think he just enjoys yanking our chain with the added bonus of solidifying his base.

I still don't think his campaign chose "Forward" because of any potential socialist implications.
But humoring you... say he did. Exactly how many Americans do you think understand that association?
