If it hurts the business reputation by employing such a person they are perfectly within their rights to fire them.
1st Amendment means the government can't prosecute you for saying what you think, it doesn't mean you can be an as .s.hole and keep your job if you are turning customers off and people avoid the business because of you. .
Let's say the guy who works at the local gas station is a avid Trump supporter and constantly makes posts denigrating "liberals". If 90% of the gas station's customers are "liberal", would you be okay with him being fired?

Sure but its clearly cancel culture... Right wingers are calling employers to have their employees fired for posting Charlie Kirk quotes on social media. Our government saying that they will prosecute what they consider to be hate speech.

Wasn't Charlie Kirk a free speech absolutist?
Yeah, cancel culture is finally coming for the left.

I'm against firing people for their speech activities, unless it's relevant to their job (for example, I'm okay with a teacher being fired for demonstrating that his or her worldview is unacceptable for a person who is influencing children).

Still, there's an amusing "sauce for the goose" element to all of this.

Charlie Kirk would not want people fired for celebrating his death (though "absolutist" is an overstatement). Unfortunately, not everyone is as magnanimous as Charlie was.

They aren't made up but they aren't common, aren't associated with any real violence, are almost always posted by random unknown people looking for attention, and are DEFINITELY being shared widely by right wingers in order to create animosity towards the left as a whole.

Right wingers in our government are trying to make the argument that a hoard of violent leftists are out there shooting people. This is untrue.
I am firmly opinionated that the proportion of extremist views on social media does not accurately reflect opinions in the country as a whole. I am firmly opinionated that most Americans want fair tax laws, sensible gun control, and affordable medical care. But these views tend to be shouted down by extremely vocal extremists on social media, and this gives a false impression about the thick part of the bell curve on the ground in America. Just look at the election results from 2024: slightly more than 1/3 of the voting population voted for Trump; that means very nearly 2/3 did not vote for him. He cannot possibly claim a massive mandate based on well less than 50% of the electorate.

Dalton Trumbo knew a little bit about right wing "cancel culture" 75+ years ago.

Neither was Charlie, unless you're only talking about to white people.

Exactly.

His fan club doesn't see it that way, though.

LOL "finally"??? Where have you been?

Two of the most prominent examples of cancel culture in modern history were Colin Kaepernick and Al Franken.

Is there any equivalent to those two on the right? Maybe Roseanne Barr?

One of "The Hollywood Ten", charged with contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with the House Un-American Activities Committee. He was blacklisted for over a decade.

For this one, I'll do their homework for them.

What’s going on isn’t cancel culture like your woke cancel culture! What’s going on is people getting called out for sickening post about the assignation.death of a young father and husband that never preached for violence and had nothing but calm debates, at least from him. Employers can decide if they want to employee sick people like this.

Charlie Kirk wanted to kill Joe Biden. He said it out loud. Whipping foreigners. Physical confrontations with transgender athletes. I've seen the video clips, stop with the gaslighting that he never preached violence.

Bs, try actually watching a couple of his college debates before you try and make his and other violence justified, you’re sick people.

In other words, you agreed with his views so any criticism of him on social media deserves firing.

Yep, that's classic "cancel culture". What people post on social media is none of their employers' business unless it directly relates to the job.

No, it’s nothing like woke cancel culture, I’ve already explained this. People are being reported to employers for supporting murder with sick comments not your views of society. It’s up to the employers if they think this would or wouldn’t hurt their businesses or the type of person they want working for them. You see how I answer you, the libs here, you, might try it sometime instead of ignoring everything and just posting more crap.

You answer by parroting the same propaganda line you and your gullible fellow MAGA numskulls have been fed.

You have no principles consistent with any idea of personal freedom.

More sheepish lies and insight from you, everyone here is honored and blessed to have such a great mind here.
