Why are there so many religious extremists in the US? Is ther ...[text shortened]... nation for this, or are there lax laws when it comes to "Christian" religious extremism?

If you read the article you would see he is not locked up but on trial at the moment. And you are completely missing the point of my post. So take time to read things before shooting your mouth off like an idiot.
By the way, there is a high tolerance for all religions in my country. But you don’t even know what country I come from.
This story started back in March 2007 and was basically resolved then... the guy has a future in prison, he will be found guilty.
And your still wrong in your basic premise.
I won't respond to your personal insult, because thats a character trait of liberals when they can't prove their point.

SMSBear716, I don't think he was 'slamming' christianity as a whole -- just posing the question as to why christian extremists find such a home in the U.S.
And yes, this is a thing of european past (emphasis on the past) but I do believe, as you said, that this happened in Utah about four months ago.
The term 'Christian' gets thrown about v ...[text shortened]... ibly in today's world. I for one, can not see how George W. Bush claims to be a Christian.
My point is that the original post was an attempt to slam Christians Warren Jeffs is not a Christian IMHO, although he and members of his sect probably believe . He is another cult leader along the lines of Jim Jones or Charles Manson. Still, the original poster wanted to put him up as an example of an American Christian today, and then use that to advance his agenda which is to slam Christians and specifically American Christians.
My intent in responding was to not let such a ridiculous accusation go unchallenged. I accomplished my task.
BTW, George W Bush is a Christian in my book. and no, I don't care to debate that. You have your point of view and I have mine. We should just agree to disagree and leave it at that.
Originally posted by SMSBear716What is the basic premise? From what I read his basic premise is that there are a lot of Christian extremists in the United States. That is a fact. His questions is basically "Why is that?"
And your still wrong in your basic premise.
Of course some Christians then become offended at this perceived attack. I didn't see it that way. The original post was not an attack on Christianity as a whole it was a statement of fact that there are a lot of Christian extremists in the US and a question as to why that is.
My answer to that questions would be to look back to the origin of the United States and the migration of religious extremists from England to the US. These people established the first British colonies here to escape religous persecution. They were persecuted because they were extreme. The United States of America always was and always will be a nation that is partly comprised of Christian extremists.

Extremists in Islam are based on war.
Extremists in Christianity are based on sex.
Is it any real suprise that these "extreme" versions are based on the 2 basic instincts in humanity...sex and war?
I don't think so.
Islam and Christiantity, at their core, try to reduce and control the human instinct for sex and violence. It's not that hard to understand then, when you view it in this context, that some people will find ways to use religion against itself in order to obtain these most basic of human instincts.
Food for thought.

Not really. Islam has more than it's share of sexual abuses and Christianity did have more than it's share of war. Difference now is that Christian nations have learned the importance of separating church and state. The local preacherman can't call men to arms like the local Imam can.
If Islam keeps it up though, that preacherman part will change and we'll have a real religious war on our hands again.
You know, for old times sake.
