@Great-Big-Stees saidI'm beginning to think that there are at least a couple, or maybe 50, people here who will tell their daughter to suck it up when she calls that there is an unidentified, unvetted male which she must share a bedroom with.
I’m beginning to get the idea that you are NOT a glass half full person.🤔
There is lying on the Forum. You are all lying if you bless this arrangement. Call 'em out, Sue, liars!!

This topic has brought back memories of my freshman year of college. I managed to find an inexpensive studio apartment and was able to focus on my studies without any distractions. But after spring break I rented a room in a house closer to campus... BIG mistake. Some people in the house were students and some weren't, and it was nearly impossible to study and keep up with school due to constant noise and conflicts.
Some kids are able to live in that kind of "party animal" environment and attend school, and some aren't. I wasn't, and my grades suffered because I naively believed all college students were interested in pursuing an education and degree.
By the way, if you had known me then you would not recognize me today. I was a bushy bearded long haired liberal firebrand know it all "power to the People" free stuff blah blah blah blah... anyway, you get the picture. 🧔♀️
@Kilroy70 saidOuch I had somewhat of the same experience, but found a way out quick enough. Some were not in college for the right reasons, like you and I apparently were. As an aside to that, if Kamala et al achieve ‘free college’ Our next good subject, (maybe not so good for some folks here), will be how all of the losers will flock into the colleges to lay up sorry for some period of time, not being there for a good education. Ahhhh, but it’s free. If you’ve managed your life like I have.,we will BE the socialists, they won’t, but will live under our socialism. See? I’m flexible. Can’t beat em, so join em. Definitely schooling my family to prepare.

@AverageJoe1 saidLong story short, I became disillusioned and angry with myself for grasping onto a simple minded dime store philosophy. But I was young, so was able to forgive myself and move on. I remained a Democrat (but not as liberal) until about half way through Regan's second term. By then I was fed up with being lied to by members of my own party, so I said "screw it... I'm done with this".

@Kilroy70 saidAs I have said, on numerous occasions, “the world would be a very dull place if we were all alike”. Most, if not all my friends and “off spring” were involved in much of what you speak and as I also said before, “teach your children well” but also give them the opportunity to live life. My parents ( born in the early 20th century) were surprisingly “liberal” (note the small L) and I, as a person who was of the early, very early/beginning of the baby boomer generation was totally surprised at just how liberal they were. I made mistakes and they said, did you learn from them? I did and I “paid forward” that philosophy to my progeny. To my delight both my daughter and son have “done very well, thank you very much” and I always said that a big part of their success was due to my parents, forward thinking.👍

@Great-Big-Stees saidI imagine growing up there was less confusion and conflct in your parent's home than in mine. My mother (a college English teacher) was a liberal Democrat who complained about how much she paid in taxes. And she wanted me to "think for yourself", but only if I agreed with her.

My dad was a conservative Republican who agreed with many liberal positions... so in other words, he was a fiscal Republican.
A glass seeming half empty or half full is a point of view. A pessimist says glass half empty and an optimist says half full. From my point of veiw, something either lines up with reality or it doesn't.
@Kilroy70 saidOh no, there were some conflicts (what family doesn’t have them?) but there was discussion and sometimes it was just, “let’s just agree to disagree”. I don’t ever remember what happens on some of the RHP forum threads…the same discussions being rehashed over and over and over and all expecting the “opposition” to relent.

It's like watching the same movie over and over and over ad nauseum. I can't bring myself to watch some of my favorite movies for just that very reason.
I don't expect anyone to change their mind on a topic because of anything I say. But it HAS happened. And the few times it has happened you could knock me over with a feather.
@AverageJoe1 saidNow that's scary. YOUR socialism?

Is that anything like National Socialism?
@AverageJoe1 saidIt's not going to happen in your lifetime, so calm the F down.

Your analogies always, always suck.
