I was texting a friend on Monday July 8th. 9:33am, just after the debate but before Biden formally withdrew.
I’m not sure if Democrats realize the depth of the mistake they are making right now, for one simple reason: if Biden is *not* qualified to run in Nov, then he is *NOT* qualified to be President now. NOR has he been qualified for some time. How long? Don’t know. But Trump and Republicans and Fox News have been screaming he’s demented for years. And now Democrats are saying, “Well, you are right. We agree. Biden’s not qualified to run again.” Boom. You just gave up the whole store.
Gracefully bowing out is not what is happening, though. He could have announced his intention not to run a year ago. That might have worked. This is not that. This is him being pressured out by people who are panicking that THEIR guy is no longer (maybe never was; maybe they knew and hid the fact) qualified to be President. Huge difference.
Cardinal mistake: Dems are admitting they were wrong. Worst thing they could possibly do.
This is SUCH an own goal. Unbelievable.
Here’s the problem: I’m an independent. I’m happy with Biden. He (and his team) are highly competent and do a good job. Debates are useless theatre - I don’t care about them. I also NEVER answer surveys so me (and others like me) are not reflected in any polls. But I don’t like Harris. Never did. So the Winning Plan Is to take away Biden and give me Harris…? Hmmmm….
I mean, I’ll vote for Harris myself. But will others…?
