I know that most people are tired of the moderation debates, but I really need some clarification. I had a post removed and I'd really like to know why.

In the Thread "A Question for BBarr" on October 4, I was having one of my intellectually satisfying discussions with Ivanhoe about the FW user account opened in his name (I know, I know, but this thread isn't about THAT so relax). I had suggested that no one knew who opened the stupid account, maybe RHP Ivanhoe did. Wucky3 responded with this post:

No1Lacky ...the idea that ivanhoe created that account is ludicrous and you even suggesting it hilarious. Quit the head wrecking games ... it's not nice.

I don't have my full post (as it was removed) but most of it was saying again who knows the I-man could have done it, blah blah. I then responded directly to the "no1Lackey" insult with the words: " and you should remove your head from your nether regions." This post was removed.

Robomod, why? No profanity. Wucky3 started the insult game and I responded with a suggestion that is far less objectionable than many that are posted in these forums all the time. True, neither post was particulary clever or worthwhile, but I would suggest it was a pretty mild give and take. And while I'm not in love with "consistency" arguments, it seems a little unfair that Wucky3's insult was left in and my response was removed. For clarity, I think both should be left up.

If it is simply that more people will alert my posts than similiar ones by Wucky's3 because I'm a jerk and he/she isn't, that seems a pretty poor reason. So I ask you Robomod in the sky, what is the rationale for the post being removed?

The RoboMod rules. All hail the RoboMod!

He/She/It is omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent and utterly democratic. He/She/It can make entire threads disappear with one click of a button (actually, n clicks).

In the beginning, Russ & Chrismo (henceforth known as The Creators) created the heavens and the earth (redhotpawnia). It was a formless email chess site. Then the Creators said, "Let there be forums", and there were forums. The Creators saw that the forums were good. Evening came and morning came, this was the First Age.

As the residents of redhotpawnia grew fruitful and multiplied, the Creators said to some of them, "Look, to you I give power over all the threads in all the forums". These were the Human Mods. Evening came and morning came, this was the Second Age.

Now the snake (He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named) was the most subtle of all the creatures who roamed the Forums. It fomented dissent among the residents of redhotpawnia, and incited them to rebel against the Human Mods. And although the snake and the rebels were expelled from the Garden of redhotpawnia, the power of the Human Mods were forever tainted by the backlash of the snake.

The Creators took pity on the creatures who roamed the forums and decided to send them a Saviour, a Judge who rules without passion or prejudice, who is all-powerful and above reproach. Him we call the RoboMod.

Cheers,

Luc

I guess more people alerted your post than Wucky3s.

Did you alert Wucky3s post? I'm guessing not, perhaps if you had that one more alert would have seen his removed too.

Anyway, easy come / easy go - I'm sure the forums can live with one less insult... however witty you may have thought it was, maybe you should save them to your hard drive so you can read them back to yourself from time to time. 😡

I don't alert posts - PERIOD! But I don't think the moderation process should be a popularity contest, either. I thought that's why Russ added the text box to the alert; so you'd have to give a reason. I'm asking for clarification that's all. I already said the post wasn't particulary clever, but then again, neither was the one you just made!

I'm guessing it happened before the text box was implemented. If not I have no idea, perhaps it would be better to take it up with a moderator rather than post about it in the debates forum - you don't seriously expect us to "debate" why your not so clever insult was pulled do you? As it's not a really much of debating subject as of now I could alert your post for being off-topic. πŸ˜‰

Exy, I wasn't informed it was removed and I have no idea who the mod was so I can't take it up with him. I couldn't figure out what Forum to put it in now the Forum Issues forum was gone, but most of those topics have spilled over into this Forum, so that's where I put it.
So you might want to get your facts straight before you start your criticisms of my actions. Alert the post if you want.

I think you're being a little disingenuous. You're not a new comer to moderation or challenging it, you could PM any moderator, failing that you could PM Russ. What are you hoping to achieve by "debating" it here?

I'm not going to keep non-arguing with you about it; I've had very few posts moderated and previously when I did and had a question about it, I just posted a general post in the Forum Issues forum or alerted the mod if I knew who it was. Neither option is available here. I'd rather not waste Russ' time on these matters as he does not want his time wasted on these matters. If a mod answers me by PM, fine; if I think it's worth starting a thread that's my concern: if it bothers you so much, YOU PM Russ and tell him to close it!

And this is why it wound up in the Debates Forum; 'cuz somebody like you wants a debate, I want a clarification and maybe a debate if I'm not satisfied. All I'm hoping to acheive is an answer; you seem to want to debate "why" I would want such a thing. Do you want to debate why human beings seek answers to the unknown? Perhaps you could start a new thread dealing with this profound philosophical issue; all I want to know is why the post was removed so I'll know what I can and can't do. Okey-doke?

Well 2bit, the way I see it, you guys are going to have to get used to this kind of thing.

Let's put people in two groups, those called "tough skin", those called "thin skin". "Tough skin" group don't mind heated debate and insults hurled and will never alert a post. "Thin skin" group don't want our forums to be a free for all so anything they see that is heated and insulting they will alert. "Middle skin" group can take insults but make a difference between defensive insults (toward another person) and offensive insults.

So in this situation, those of us of the "tough skin" aren't going to alert anything. Those of the "thin skin" are going to alert both, and those of the "middle skin" are going to alert the post lashing back at a defensive insult.

Meaning....the "tough skins" are going to have many more posts modded out than anybody else.

Or it could be just late, the sleeping pills are kicking in and I'm pulling stuff out of my nether regions. πŸ˜‰

No1: I don't have my full post ......

... indeed you haven't.

Don't you remember how you filled in your usual "joke" at the end of your post ? In .......... ship ?

" ifyouwantsomeofthistooship "

In saying so, you implicitly admitted me giving a certain treatment, which you always deny, and you "promised" Wucky to receive the same treatment if she didn't stop opposing you. Your attitude is unacceptable. Wucky doesn't deserve such a treatment. You insult, degrade and intimidate anybody who dares to stand in your way.

A guy who screams "Nazi" "scum" etc. has got to be the biggest hypocrite on the face on this Earth to say anybody's else "insulting" is unacceptable! And if you check the record, the first insult thrown was by Wucky3 and that one was allowed to remain. Only a paranoid like you would read anything in to my usual joke (joke- get it?), "ifyouwantsomeofthistooship" which is basically a catch phrase of some character in a movie (I forget which). YOUR attitude is unacceptable: that everybody must comport with YOUR ideas of behavior, but you are free to do whatever you want.

And to ncrosby's point: If Wucky3 wants to be hypersensitive it would probably be best for her/him not to start insulting people and then run crying to the mods when he/she is treated in kind. That's being a hypocrite and Ivanhoe's already got that gig here at RHP.

And most important point: when deciding if a post has been properly removed, whoever is reviewing Robomod's call (is anyone?) should check the entire context of the thread and see what it is in response to. Leaving in Wucky3's insult and removing mine is simply unfair. And please don't tell me we're not allowed to insult each other in the Debates Forum; half the posts would disappear tomorrow (even such a champion of civility as the I-man felt it necessary to call me a "clown" yesterday for responding seriously in an abortion thread). And before anybody starts accuses me of wanting more moderation 'cuz I got moderated, I say both the posts should remain up, period.

So far no response from the powers that be. So I await further word.
