There was the case recently, 2011 I think, that the media called the 1,000:1 hostage deal. Gilad Shalit, a Jew was released by Hamas, in exchange for over 1,000 Palestinians. This was a grave error as many of the Palestinians, over 250 of them were Hamas operatives, some very high in the chain of command. This, many Jewish security experts believed caused the Oct 7th attack.
Hostage deals, sad to say, are often not worth it in the long run, when dealing with Islamic terrorists.
