@vivify saidJohns Hopkins. No impact on Covid. Johns Hopkins for God sakes. But here we have the lock-step liberal with their narrative, finding SOMETHING to say, trying to disparage the findings of one of the top institutions in this country.
It should be pointed that the report *only* studied mortality rates. From the study:
https://sites.krieger.jhu.edu/iae/files/2022/01/A-Literature-Review-and-Meta-Analysis-of-the-Effects-of-Lockdowns-on-COVID-19-Mortality.pdf
[quote]We only include studies that attempt to establish a relationship (or lack thereof) between lockdown policies and COVID-19 mortality or exce ...[text shortened]... lity rates.
Like always, conservatives misrepresent the findings of studies for their own agenda.
Makes all of your future postioins somewhat questionable? But fear not, Vivify, we will know that your opinions will not be your own. None of any liberal is their own. Just absolutely pitiful.
@vivify saidCome on, man. Sure there were people who defied the rules, but schools, camps and most businesses were shut down for many months (or years) across the country. Summer sports were shut down. Hiking trails and tennis courts were blocked. We devastated our economy and sent depression and childhood learning and behavioral problems soaring.
Lockdowns are only as effective as the ability to enforce them. In the U.S. conservatives protested and openly defied lockdowns;. There were protests at the Michigan state capitol involving armed protestors. And so on.
Lockdowns don't work when a large percent of the population won't abide by them.
To have gotten almost no return on that terrible investment is one of the worst public health calamities of all time.
I get that we were scared out of our minds in March of 2020, but if we can't learn now that what we did sucked (or at least that we should have gotten back to normal by the summer), then we're just plain idiots.
@averagejoe1 saidWrong again, you elderly diaper-clad half-wit.
But here we have the lock-step liberal with their narrative, finding SOMETHING to say, trying to disparage the findings of one of the top institutions in this country.
I didn't disparage John Hopkins, I only quoted their own report. I disparaged Breitbart's deliberate propaganda-by-omission.
@sh76 saidNothing you've said changes that fact that politics severely impacted the effect of the lockdowns. Conservatives still gathered in huge crowds, ignored social distancing, ignored masks, etc. Lockdowns worked in China because that government was able to enforce them.

There was the misguided assumption in America (and Europe) that everyone would be in this together. The fact that this turned out not to be the case is what kept lockdowns from being effective.
@vivify saidDo you mean (gasp),
Notice the Breitbart link the OP did not link to the report. I suspect it was to keep that part of the study hidden.
Propaganda only works with ignorance.
lying by omission?
Breitbart?.......Newsmax?,,,,,,Faux?
Say it ain't so........

@mghrn55
Yup, I got what you were saying. But I do take interest in seeing if people post on the side of predictability
@vivify saidHow'd they work in China and Australia, and is anything perfect?

@vivify saidSo if Breitbart writes about the Johns Hopkins report, the report is no good.

Gotcha, propaganda boy 🤔
@earl-of-trumps saidWhat about the lockdowns in China?
“lockdowns have had little to no public health effects,” and have “imposed enormous economic and social costs where they have been adopted.”

Commentary:
People think the issue, lockdowns, is a medical issue but it is not, it is a political one.
If you are a totalitarian at heart you will back lockdowns no matter what, ...[text shortened]... dy-lockdowns-have-had-little-to-no-public-health-effects-imposed-enormous-economic-and-social-costs/
They basically just locked the 💩 out of it and within a few months were back out partying again.
@suzianne saidhow many people starved? how many committed suicide?
Far more than "one [life]" was saved, genius.
you did in fact post on the side of predictability, ms totalitarian
@earl-of-trumps saidIf it is REAL NEWS, why not
So if Breitbart writes about the Johns Hopkins report, the report is no good.

China's coronavirus lockdown strategy: brutal but effective
Don't know about Australia.
