A good point. A right must be given, or come from somewhere. If you live forever alone in a forest, a right would have no meaning. If there are others, then if one allows you to sit by the campfire, your right to sit by that fire comes from some entity.

So marauder, please tell Eladar and us where the right comes from.
Our Nature which is why they are called "Natural Rights".

I said a just society should provide medical care to those who need it, not that it was a "right".

Bernie didn't lie; he believes that health care is a right. Do you know what a lie is?
On SQUAD thread, Page 6, 9 posts down, you say, and I quote... "I don't happen to agree with Bernie that medical care is a "right" (though it is certainly something a just society should provide to its People), but I tend to take a Lockean view of Rights."
So, you differ here in your post, ....now you say to 'those who need it'. How many times must I call you out, to quit changing phrases and words, and interjecting words in a post that were not there before.?? I for one don't have time to look this stuff up under Search. It is tedious.
And Bernie, knowing it is not a right, thus intended to deceive, to his benefit (to get elected) , stated a lie. You seem, as usual, good with changing the def of a lie.
Now, can you comment on how you said one thing above and something else now? I used to love to say to a witness,,,'well, were you lying then, or are you lying now?'

@AverageJoe1. Something else. Your phrase 'just society' did not escape me. I think you are saying that the USA is not a just society?! And can you give us all a def of just society, so that in discussions we will always compare apples to apples?
This could be a separate thread, ....eg, is a society just where some people support others, when those others can dammit support themselves? Is that just....in a society, ....where people have to live together, dodge bullets together?

How many times does it have to be said before your get it through your thick skull:

Bernie believes that people have a "right" to health care. He isn't "lying" when he says so; a lie is a knowingly false statement made with intent to deceive. So if you believe something is true, you aren't "lying" when you say it.

I didn't change anything. Obviously people don't just go get health care for laughs; they get it when they need it. My two statements are saying the same thing.

WTF??? How could you possibly come to such a conclusion from that sentence fragment?

BTW, you might want to read the whole sentence which was referring to some government employees directly protecting rights (like cops or firemen) with other employees doing tasks that don't directly protect rights but that the People "find necessary and/or desirable." (highway maintenance workers or the folks at DMV).

Preelection concerns that President Joe Biden wasn’t physically or mentally up for his new job at age 78, the oldest-ever chief executive, are now settling in as the public sees him slow-walking, refusing to consider questions at press conferences, and seemingly befuddled with the crisis in Afghanistan.
