They are hostages, and likely to be used as pawns, Wait till Biden has THAT drop in his lap, with there demands, threatening systematic deaths. Are you oblivious, or just over liberal?
I know of no American "hostages" in Afghanistan. Some are having difficulties getting to evacuation points, but I have not heard of any being detained by any groups there. I'm sure right wingers are hoping for that eventuality though.

The evacuations proceed; 18,000 people out of Afghanistan in less than a week as of yesterday.

The taliban/Isis is preventing American citizens from leaving. That is the being held hostage in a normal persons book.

There were more US troops in Afghanistan on August 15, 2021 then there were when Trump reduced the level to 2500 last December:

Hostage - someone who is taken as a prisoner by an enemy in order to force the other people involved to do what the enemy wants:

There are Americans and other nationalities so far unable to reach the airport to be evacuated from Afghanistan, but there are absolutely no reports of any of them being held "hostage".

Because Trump kicked the withdrawal date in his surrender agreement until after his term was over.

Do you know who is really responsible for all off the Biden mess? Not him, as he has dementia. It is his horrible wife Jill, who wanted to hang curtains in the White House. She should never have shouldered our country with this pitiful ineffective man. And put him in a sad situation, which will lead him to an early sad death. She could have stopped this. So, that is MY hindsight.
