is necessarily limited, although vast. Why 'necessarily?'
Think of our solar system. We define its 'region' as the
space in which all nine planets rotate. It has an X, Y,
and Z axis centered roughly around the sun. If we draw
a three-dimensional oval around the solar system such
that the movement of the planets are contained within
it, then we've defined it. The places outside this oval
are outside the solar system.
Similarly, since the universe exists in three dimensions,
we can draw the same HUGE oval around it. Within this
oval would be all of the stars, presumably slowly collapsing
towards each other. Outside this oval would be nothing.
There is certainly space outside the universe, but the universe
is finite. That space contains an infinite amount of nothing, but
the universe has a finite volume.
