In an interview on Wednesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said some NATO member states want the war in Ukraine to last longer as a way to hurt Russia.
“There are countries within NATO who want the war to continue,” Cavusoglu told CNN Turk. “They want Russia to become weaker.”

They want to weaken Russia just as I have been saying all along and they do not care how many people die as a result.
From the Washington Post article below:
"Even a Ukrainian vow not to join NATO — a concession that Zelensky has floated publicly — could be a concern to some neighbors. That leads to an awkward reality: For some in NATO, it’s better for the Ukrainians to keep fighting, and dying, than to achieve a peace that comes too early or at too high a cost to Kyiv and the rest of Europe."

Wrong. There are small minority of officials within NATO who want the war to continue. The vast majority of NATO countries and their citizens want this war to end. Distorting the facts in these forums might make you feel good, but it doesn't represent the truth.
@metal-brain saidWell perhaps Putin should fool playing into their hands and get the F out of Ukraine 🙄

The weakening of Russia will continue regardless of how and when this war ends. The days of Putin making land grab wars on his smaller neighbours and then waiting for the dust go settle on a few meaningless sanctions are over.
Russias destiny as shaped by Putin is to be a virtual economic and political province under the control of Beijing
@metal-brain saidThe US and the UK. They are the less damaged from the conflict in Europe.

The US as the US and Russia both have 5000 nuclear weapons.
They also want Russia to deal with Ukraine, so Finland and Sweden can silently join NATO.
@eintaluj saidYou make it sound as though Putin has been programmed by the CIA.

He did not need to invade Ukraine he already had Crimea and the Donbas and he knew that NATO was not going to admit Ukraine, I love the way you blame the west for Putin’s psychotic behaviour and his strategic failures.
@kevcvs57 saidAscribing this unfortunate situation merely to one man's supposedly "psychotic" actions is the reasoning of a child or of a particularly gullible swallower of every bit of Western neocon propaganda.

It seems the Turkish foreign minister is at least partially correct; there are many who would prefer a long, destructive war to a peace agreement that addresses the issues that caused it.
@kevcvs57 saidThe USA occupies about one third of Syria, the oil rich part. That is a land grab.

All land grabbers should get the F out.
Stop endorsing double standards.
If the USA can do it so can Russia.
@metal-brain saidOccupying is not a "land grab". That's why the U.S. doesn't control any land in Iraq.

Stop defending Russia with your constant deflections

The U.S. controls all land in Iraq. My government installed a puppet government in Iraq. That is how imperialism is done. That is what the Shah of Iran was, a puppet dictator. Look up "Operation Ajax". The NYT has a good article about Iran secrets of history. Why do you think imperialism stopped?
Since the Spanish/American war when did the USA stop being an imperialist nation?
@metal-brain saidRight...which is why that "puppet government" called for the removal of U.S. troops:

Yes or no?
Why would the USA allow a nation they conquered to have self determination? So terrorists could take over? To suggest the USA does not look out for their own interests is absurd. Do you think Japan and South Korea are not puppets of the USA as well? The Philippines? Cuba before Castro liberated it from the empire? Iran before the Shah was forced in exile? Guam?
@metal-brain saidThat's irrelevant to the fact that this "puppet government" is trying to kick the the U.S. out.
Did US troops leave?
Yes or no?
@metal-brain saidFunnily enough, as this proxy war continues, the whole world is financially going down the drain, shortages, etc.

Anybody seen any sunflower oil around recently.
It’s not just Russia which is feeling the impact.
Except in China. They don’t seem to be feeling much of anything.
@vivify saidLip service to convince you it is not a puppet government.
That's irrelevant to the fact that this "puppet government" is trying to kick the the U.S. out.
Are they really trying? Why is Iraq unable to make them leave? Don't they have control over their own government?
Surely you are not this naive. If Iraq was a truly sovereign nation US troops would be gone.
