This is truly scary stuff:

The US govt. spends more per annum on Veterans' Disability pension ($57 billion), than it spends on all education ($54.4 billion)!

"President Bush requests $54.4 billion in discretionary appropriations for the Department of Education in fiscal year 2007, a decrease of $3.1 billion, or 5.5 percent, from the 2006 level."

The true role of government is to protect it's citizens i.e. a police force, a defence force and a justice system. So a government that spends more in this area than on brainwashing it's young through a state education system is something others should aspire to.

Replying solely to your point that more is spent on defence than education.

"brainwashing it's young through a state education system " No, no, no. Education is informative. The brain washing is done by religion.

This is hilarious: Next year, Shrub will cut the budget for education "To save $3.5 billion in taxpayer dollars, the President's budget recommends eliminating 42 programs proven ineffective."

http://www.ed.gov/news/pressreleases/2006/02/02062006.html

This in the same year that he has gone cap in hand to ask for another $120 billion in taxpayer dollars EXTRA, to pay for the Iraq fiasco.

Talk about screwd-up priorities!

You are advocating that more countries should fail to educate their citizens?

To be fair, the vast bulk of money spent on education in the US is by state and local governments and not the federal government. The figures from 1999-2000 were that the US spent $373 billion of tax dollars on education and 92.7% came from state and local governments. http://www.policyalmanac.org/education/archive/doe_education_spending.shtml

So you haven't right? Because 1984 is all about failing to educate the populous so they don't know what is going on. That and spending every single penny possible on wars.
