Dissent was the highest form of patriotism under a Republican president. Now a Newsweek writer says it’s un-American. The mainstream media’s frustration is understandable, having missed the stories of ACORN, Van Jones and others going all the way back to Jeremiah Wright. They need to take off their knee-pads, wipe off their mouths and get back to work speaking truth to power, even if they like the guy in the White House.

The White House’s effort to target a news organization like Fox is vaguely Nixonian. The case put forward by the pro-Mao political theorist Anita Dunn is filled with errors and erroneous statements. (See Chris Wallace’s comments during this segment.) And the willingness of liberal commentators like Jacob Weisberg to act as an attack poodle on behalf of the Obama White House is both predictable and discrediting. Frankly, we’re seeing “progressives” explode in outrage at Fox not only because their previous media monopoly has ended but also because Fox is so enormously popular (it’s home to the top-10-rated cable-news programs in America and 13 of the top 15).

White House aide says Barack Obama team 'controlled' the media

The top campaign strategist who has shot to attention recently as President Obama's main attack dog against Fox News, the conservative-leaning cable network, was speaking at a conference in the Dominican Republic in January.
"Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn't absolutely control," she said.
"One of the reasons we did so many of the David Plouffe [Mr Obama's campaign manager] videos was not just for our supporters, but also because it was a way for us to get our message out without having to actually talk to reporters.
"We just put that out there and made them write what Plouffe had said as opposed to Plouffe doing an interview with a reporter. So it was very much we controlled it as opposed to the press controlled it."

Hume said he wondered that since Obama aides cast a disparaging view on Fox News if the other channels, including CNN, fell in line more with the lapdog role than the watchdog role, as some think journalism should be.
"So the president's aides appear on other news channels to say that Fox, unlike those outlets, is really not a news organization but an arm of the Republican Party. One wonders how our colleagues at CNN and elsewhere like being patted on the head and given the seal of approval by the White House. These outlets already stand accused of being in the tank for Mr. Obama. Do they really want to open themselves up to more such criticism by ignoring legitimate stories because they originate here?"
