I am completely non-religious, however, its hard to understand how you can consider Christianity to be more problematic than Islam. If a Christian were to convert to Islam, he would not then be in fear for his life from Christians because of that choice.

Plenty of Muslims convert to Christianity, and few people care. Palestine is a secular country (or would be if the fascists didn't take it) and Hamas wants to keep it like that.
