Let's face it the average American doesn't consume more beer than say the average Brit, Aussie, or German for example. It's the other lifestyle issues that create the overweight problem.

Joe Six pack refers to the average blue collar American white male that comes home after work and grabs a six pack of Budweiser or Coors or Miller or some other American piss and drinks it while watching Nascar, Wrestling, or other culturally enlightening event. Hopefully that clears this up.
