I have questions regarding gender vs. sex and transgenderism.

Before I ask, consider my many years of posts as someone who leans left, is progressive and also supports the right of trans people to live their lives happily and treated with the same respect as anyone else.

That said: I just have questions and hope for an adult discussion.

1) Gender vs. Sex.

Yes, one is biology is the other is cultural. However: that culture stems directly from one's biology, right?

For example: for thousands of years women traditionally stayed at home with children, while men were more involved with hunting, war, etc. Those gender roles stem directly from the differences in biology, right? By necessity, women has to be home with children to nurse before the days of baby formula and refrigerators.

That tradition which persists in many cultures today stems from biology. So can we really say, at least in this instance, that there's a difference between sex and gender here?

There are many other examples I could give but isn't it logical to say gender roles are directly pulled from perceived differences between the sexes? So how can gender vs. sex really be all that different?

2) Doesn't gender only exist because of sex?

If there are more than 2 genders, what exactly does gender mean outside of sex? Simply put: how do you define gender without sex?

I realize that there are spectrums; some men can be more traditionally feminine or masculine than others, as can women. But feminine and masculine still refer traits humans associate with the male and female sex...of which, there are only 2.

That said: there are rare cases where those 2 overlap, like with hermaphrodites. This is biological. So it's at least proof that transgenderism has basis in nature and isn't just psychological.

3) Identifying as male, female, both or neither.

Since hermaphrodites are scientific proof that humans can be born in ways that don't neatly fit into either category of sex, this would be the basis for concluding there can be more than one sex or neither.

However: if gender is in just cultural constructs, doesn't this mean that gender identity is arbitrary? If gender is indeed just man-made, how can you "feel" like one gender or the other (or both or neither)? Wouldn't such people be identifying with made up roles?

Feedback appreciated.

“ So it's at least proof that transgenderism has basis in nature and isn't just psychological.”

Define transgender the explain how it is possible.

You and marauder are kindred spirits, so we hope that you will have a civil discussion that we can learn from. I really do want to learn all about the different genders, and sexes in the world, so I can tell my grandchildren all about it so they can tell their grandchildren and by then they will be maybe 20 different genders (or sexes)…I have an idea, let’s all predict how many genders be in five years.

If gender and sex are the same thing, then what gender are asexual people?

I would think that, if you lean as liberal as you say you do, the bottom line would be you being against anyone who says people should not be themselves, and perhaps leave it at that? Most people have a damned good idea who they are, even if no one else does. I will forever be on the side of the person who says they are being persecuted for being who they are. That's not for anyone to decide except that person. Those who disagree can go pound sand.

You people are always looking for someone to feel superior to.

To you and people like you, I say 'piss off, it's none of your business'.

Nonnono. what we are 'looking for' here, is the diff. So, of all People, AVJOE wll tell you all. I will do it this wah, cause nobody listens t me!

Sex refers to biological and physiological traits, such as chromosomes, hormones, and reproductive anatomy........Gender refers to socially constructed roles, behaviors, expressions, and identities.

So, sex is organs by birth......Doctor says:...'It's a Girl!!! or "It's a Boy'.

Gender is 😉 what a person 'thinks' they are. Whew. And a few of you want 330M people to acknowledge and confirm 'what they think they are'. I, for instance, will be an apple pie today.

So shelve it, kids,,,,gets old. And as y'all say it is not our business, you make it our business by wrting it into our faces. You stop...we'll stop answering.

Asexual just means you don't experience sexual attraction. "Asexual" is not a gender just like "bisexual" is not a gender.

I agree that people should allowed to be themselves. Period.
But there's nothing wrong with trying to understand people, right?

Still, I get it. What if a trans person can't really explain why they feel how they do? Would that make their feelings less legitimate? Or course not. I simply believe humanity benefits from respectful open-minded honest dialogue.

It is a common personality flaw to blame others for your own weaknesses and failings. Sexual deviations, irrespective of whether or not they are hardwired into peoples genetic makeup, is not palatable to everyone and people should not be forced to accept these things. Forced acceptance is the problem

I know nobody who goes around persecuting these people. Maybe this happened decades ago. Now there are legalised marriages between sexes and people are allowed to live as they please.

The issue is pushed into the forefront when normal people, who dont care what you do with your life, are forced to celebrate your perversions, forced to give you more attention than what your deserve, and forced to address you in some special way.

In a nutshell these attention seeking drama queens are the source of the problem.

Okay, no problem.

In the future, we'll just refer to people like you as 'liars' and not give you any more space.

No, gender is not what people 'think they are'.

It's what they know they are. They know far better than you.

"I, for instance, will be an apple pie today."

That is not how it works, stupid.

Here's a hint. If they offfeennnndddd you so much, just leave them alone. You want everyone to be like you, so you can pretend you're 'normal'. But, like the Alan Parsons Project song, I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You.
