It’s amazing how dumb this conversation is.

Instead of thinking capitalism or socialism, see it as a scale.
Some countries are more socialiat or have more socialist concepts running than others.

There isn’t a socialist country in the EU.
But many of the countries run socialist concepts on various levels. From health care to unionization, from nationalised electricity to government owned infra-structure projects.

Certainly you acknowledge the penchant to, at some point, use money or goods or taxes created by another persons?
You have to answer that , with all due respects to have a discussion .
Many millennia ago, shortly after agriculture became more popular than hunting and gathering, humans figured out that the tribe benefited when some personal resources were pooled to achieve goals that improved life for the tribe. You are bound to approve of some of the ways your tax dollars are spent and disapprove of others. That is the advantage of a democracy. You can vote those who decide how to spend your taxes in and out of office.

The US also has socialist aspects: the postal service, various agencies that protect consumers and workers and individuals during disasters, infrastructure like roads, dams and bridges, the military, money, fire and police, shoveling snow from public roads, libraries, sewer systems... all are examples of socialism.
It is hard to go back and forth with people who are abysmally ignorant.

Which of the countries would you say find their citizens to be most dependent on their government. And, would you say that he citizens of the USA are the least dependent?

Of course, all you say is a given, and thankyou for not highlighting what is known as free stuff. Could you live with including 'UBI" in your list? Of course not.

I consider myself a liberal. You have a very strange notion of what liberals in the U.S. believe.
Liberals were for UBI. Conservatives were not. Is this a fair notion? Geez
Face it man, you fellers encourage dependency.

No, they are not using legal loopholes. Illegally hiding taxable income by very wealthy individuals and corporations is not easy nor quick to uncover. It requires skilled tax experts and the IRS cannot afford to hire an adequate number of such individuals. They can barely keep up with the tax returns for average middle and upper class individuals and corporations.
It is useless to include in such discussions the fact of crime in the works. That would require a separate thread, " How do people commit crime' or such. Right now the issue refers to people can avoid taxes legally, that's all.
Hey, can you believe comments recently about how repubs spend money, when at the Same MOMENT, Biden wants to forgive student debt, which will, of course, reduce our revenues which we so desperately need?
Are you one of THOSE liberals?? Naaaa

    Interesting question.

I would say the Belgians are the least dependent on their government. They didn’t have one for 2 years running and it didn’t make a difference.

But most dependent? Probably Saudi-Arabia or Qatar. The government’s needed to keep tye balance and they have so many millionaires you could nearly say a majority profit from it.

Or perhaps some or other dictatorship.

We have been over this. Yes the roads, Fire stations, OSHA,welfare for the needy. I’m all for it, you are a broken record. Geez
So why can’t people, after paying taxes for those things, be left alone and not be hounded by Bernie Sanders and people like Marauder and Kev who want their money? Why ? Money to be given to college grads to pay their debts.?

I already stated my opinion on student debt relief in other posts. I think it is a political move to garner votes from those debt ridden individuals. I think publicly funded institutions of higher learning, state colleges, two year vocational technical schools that are publicly funded, should be free for most and extremely inexpensive for the rest. We cannot compete in a global economy without a highly educated and literate citizenry who are well versed in our constitutional rights and actually understand our representative democracy. You seem to think it's just fine that our tax code allows billionaires to get away with paying less taxes than a school teacher. The engine that drives our economy is a strong, growing middle class able to buy future landfill, homes, cars and an education for their kids. The GOP has been focused on growing the wealth of the already wealthy with no regard for the middle class which has been shrinking in the U.S. for decades.

I don't argue much of that, but the elephant question, which is NEVER answered, is what you libs want us to do with the rich people................the ones who create the jobs which pay the workers money so they can buy those homes, cars and education for their kids?
If you strap the rich, who will do all the growth and investing, blah blah, .....do you think they will just cash out? So what is next, is the govt going to buy and run their businesses? hahahaha
Why will you not answer this question, straight out.

Both parties are dependent on money from the super rich to fund their campaigns. the SCOTUS Citizens United 2010 decision made the country even more of a plutocracy. Neither party can afford to piss off the super rich until there is dramatic campaign funding reform.
