There is much food for thought even in that one part of your post.

Insofar as this is representing Christian thinking, I hardly
think spelling matters. I mean, how can one do anything
that is worthy in the sight of a perfect God? I mean,
do you think that the most eloquent, well-wrought poetry
is pleasing in the sight of perfection?

Hardly.

If God cares about anything, it's not our spelling.

But surely if God chose to speak through a person to reach the masses he wouldn't choose RBHill because half the time you can't tell what he's saying it's so full of errors.

Hold on a second. I never said that anyone was a vessel
through which God spoke.

I said that, given the presumption of imperfection that all
mortals have before the Almighty, spelling errors are probably
pretty small potatoes.

I mean, think about it, if God is perfectly beautiful and righteous
and glorious and all of those things that Christians believe, do
you really think that there is a qualitative difference between
'i luv god so very muhc' and 'My soul doth glorify the Lord.'

It's like asking a multibillionare whether he'd rather have $100
or $50. It just don't matter.

I would agree if I believed in God.

However if you were to read say a post like yours which is well structured and lacking any significant errors and a post like any of RBHill's messes which would you give more weight to based on presentation alone?

When I have to struggle to understand what someone has typed I automatically am less receptive to their views.

Of course. But that only reflects poorly on them, not on God.
Christians would argue that we are all indistinguishably imperfect
in His sight.

I, myself, strive to work through the spelling and grammatical
errors of posters because I know that there are some, like Ravello,
who do not speak English natively and for whom it is difficult to
capture every nuance of a very difficult language. I am more
interested in content than form, anyway, and the only time I get
into discussions about language or grammar is when a person has
constructed something such that, despite my best efforts, defies
comprehension.

I'm willing to cut someone who doesn't speak English as a native language a break. I mean they are doing something I never could. I'm atrocious at languages.
But RBHill has no such excuse. Neither do many others of the worst offenders.

You can usually tell who is making an effort to spell correctly and who is not. When there are multiple errors on every line, it's a sure sign that the writer doesn't even care whether people can understand him or not.

To me it's people representing themselves as intellectuals when they are spelling at a third grade level . As Darv said , the irony is overwhelming .
I'm about the worse at spelling and gramar around . I do have a mild learning disability . Typing is absolute torture . It doesn't look that bad to all of you because ; I pour over everything prior to hitting the post button , have forced my self to type without spell check for years , and have a dictionary for those times when I just can't get it right . I do think my degree of elloquence or lack of it reflects on what concept I'm trying to get across . So I have made an effort to get better . I still have some distance to go . It grates on me when people don't try , though . But it's a personal decision I guess .
But I am laying-off criticism of other's spelling . Well , at least pulling my punches . It's recently been pointed out that one of the posters I and other's have been hardest on suffers from a serious learning disability . I know how much of a bitch it can be to have that hanging around your neck . You know who you are I won't point you out , but you have my sincere apology if I hurt you . (Though I still think you're a tool for your ideas and the aggression you use in spouting them.)

However - Don't crawl up my ass for not capitalizing 'god' .

Its because they are unable to present any strong arguments in the discussion anymore. And lack the wisdom to admit that their opponent was right all along.

At the grade school level (meaning up to about age 13) they have contests they call 'Spelling Bees' at most schools. The winners advance. I noticed they even televise the national finals these days.
