At the grade school level (meaning up to about age 13) they have contests they call 'Spelling Bees' at most schools. The winners advance. I noticed they even televise the national finals these days.

In my opinion. What a weird little place. Silly people for the most part. Living is such strange isolation does weird things to the mind. The alternative theory is that stupid happens in splotches randomly on the face of the planet.

Rich people dictate their posts through secretaries with Microsoft® spell checking software, the rich define class, as usual. Yo po folk just gotta make do eh?
Sure.
Study the French so called "revolution".
Or the great bloodfest, as it really was.
Why allow others to think for you?
The "Rich" are no better or worse than "You".
They just don't know that you are sitting alone in the dark growing angry.
Stupid them. They went and did what made them rich. They have no clue that others are too stupid to do that.

i take a correction to my spelling mistakes as a helpfull hint, evan if the reason is not what was intended.
Admittedly, bad spelling and grammar is a pet annoyance for me.

Spelling is important especially in debates because it forces the people involved to be as clear and direct as possible. It should be the goal of anyone in an argument to be as clear and precise as possible in order to fully convey their point of view in order to persuade their opponents.
Why is criticising a debater's spelling used as a weapon in a debate?
Because it is a simple target and one that can confuse an argument, also if you feel you are losing the debate or the other person isn't listening it can murky the water.
What are debaters trying to accomplish who criticise their opponents spelling?
They could be doing many different things such as distracting their opponent or making a personal attack. Or simply attempting to help the other person appear more professional and intelligent.

SVW I have seen more stupidity in one thread here then I do walking round all week in this supposed intellectual backwater.
Silly people exist everywhere. I like to think I'm not among them.
