Why is spelling so important for some people ?
Why is criticising a debater's spelling used as a weapon in a debate ?
What are debaters trying to accomplish who criticise their opponents spelling ?

Or perhaps I'm just anal rententive.
Another question, why do some people feel the need to point out I'm from New Zealand in response to my arguments. Yes I realise I'm from New Zealand. Thank you for pointing it out, again. Are my opinions less valid because of where I live?
Originally posted by darvlayIt's not a tactic. It actucally does make a person look uneducated and thus lowering his credibility. The stupid part could come in when you think of the myriad spelling checkers and online dictionaries available for use. You don't actually have to know your spelling anymore; you can look almost anything up with a click of the mouse. I'm a notoriously bad speller. (I had to look up notoriously. Turns out that I had it right, but I wasn't sure so I checked.)

If you can't be bothered to communicate in a clear fashion, it seems obvious that you don't care much for the thought being presented. It is a matter of effort and cleanliness. Would you hire a guy if he showed up for the interview looking like he just rolled out of bed and threw on yesterday's clothes? Of course not, no matter what kind of skills he is prepared to show off. Laziness and lack of respect is what this sort of behavior shows, not intelligence.

You know actually darvlay is the only one who didn't make a mistake in this thread. Damn him and his perfect grammar and spelling (not to mention fiendishly good looks).
The irony in this thread is overwhelming.

I would say it is more underwhelming, as it only appeared twice in my very rushed count.

i take a correction to my spelling mistakes as a helpfull hint, evan if the reason is not what was intended.
Maybe those people are too week-minded to come up with anything better.

By the way, what is the error in my post? I looked it over after this comment of yours, but I didn't see any spelling mistakes. Perhaps I should run it through a word processor?

I don't have a cow over how people spell, with the exception that if they are posting something that is meant to function as a witness to the existence of a personal God, they had darn well better use perfect spelling, grammar and punctuation. Can you imagine a personal God allowing such sloppiness on His behalf? I, for one, surely cannot.

think spelling matters. I mean, how can one do anything
that is worthy in the sight of a perfect God? I mean,
do you think that the most eloquent, well-wrought poetry
is pleasing in the sight of perfection?
Hardly.
If God cares about anything, it's not our spelling.
