@moonbus saidI think it was obvious I was referring to consumers.
Off topic, but ... just for the sake of pedantic completeness, nothing is ever free, except sunlight, and if Big Fossil could find a way to turn it off, they would.
Health care, education, child care for working parents, "free at the point of consumption," coupled with universal access to said services, is the preferred formulation. It is paid for, one way or anothe ...[text shortened]... s a separate issue. Border control is nothing to do with socialism, however one defines "socialism."
College is free in Sweden even if you aren't from there and don't live there.
@AverageJoe1 saidI await…with “some” apprehension. When was it this time? April 31st?π€
Ha ha ha ha ha. You are hilarious! Obama and Biden both said ‘red line, don’t cross it’ and Biden’s classic.‘DON’T!”
Both treated as wimps by everyone they got so tough aboutπ
Do you really think that Trump will not give holy hell to these people if he cannot with them in line pretty soon? He can’t wait! Seriously, you know, he always means what he says ...[text shortened]... .
Further, do you not think he is going to win this whole ball of wax …you need to get with it.
@Great-Big-Stees saidI thought you knew, the landscape, and thus decisions, change daily. He just allowed Russian oil ships, (he said he doesn't care who it is) to deliver oil to Cuba. He did not a few days ago.

Do you likewise fault him for that flipflop!!??
You either do or you don't Stees. Or are you going to pick and choose. Faeries pick and choose. May he be allowed to shift gears in this process, or stay in one thoughtless gear. Do we want a mover and a shaker, a magician, or a Biden?
Stees???
@AverageJoe1 saidWhat? Great that he is for allowing Russia to ship oil to Cuba, which I wasn’t aware of. That sure was a magnanimous gesture, after all Cuba is a threat to…no one. I wonder if Marco got some requests from family still there.π€ Anyway glad to hear that, now I may, next year, be able to vacation there again. Now, as shipments from Venezuelan would take less time to travel to Cuba, will he be considering that possibility?π€

@Great-Big-Stees saidCan you not all use this post as a learning experience for debate on the forum. Please read my post just above Great Big Stees.

Please ‘judge’ his response. Make your mark!!!
The post that was quoted here has been removedIm tired of repeating the same thing to people who do not make use of readily available online information. So here is Perplexity's response :

Q : How to respond to this "If welfare isn't socialist, what is it?"
A: A sharp but simple reply is:
“Welfare is redistribution; socialism is about ownership of the economy. If welfare were socialism, then Denmark and Sweden would be revolutionary workers’ states instead of capitalist countries with big social programs.”
How to unpack that in a debate - Define the key difference
- Welfare is when the state taxes income and spending to fund social programs (unemployment, healthcare, housing support, etc.) while leaving most factories, banks, and land in private hands.
β- Socialism (in the classic sense) means social or collective ownership of the “means of production” (factories, land, major firms), not just taxing private owners to fund social programs.
Use a concrete example ... You can say:
“Under capitalism with welfare, McDonald’s is still a private corporation owned by shareholders; the state just taxes it to pay pensions or unemployment. Under socialism, workers or the community would own McDonald’s and decide how it’s run.”

Just throw them questions to make them squirm to find a way to respond without resoponding. It costs our coountry $30k a year for each student. Should we pay that for children that are not citizens of the USA? Ask them that. In question form, you are more likely to get answers ,as they get to play their vague end-around response game.....for our entertainment, of course.
You sse, your treatise above gives them no way to answer.

@AverageJoe1 saidThe amount spent per student varies dramatically with the wealth of the local community. It's not like the USA is sending 30k per child to every school in the country. Kids in rich neighborhoods get funded far better than the kids you are complaining about which throws off the average.
