60 different countries currently have Trump-imposed tariffs. This means that virtually all imports are now more expensive for American businesses, who will pass that cost off to consumers.
This is on top of the war with Iran making gas more expensive, and healthcare costing much more because of Medicaid cuts.
All happening in an economy where housing and rent costs are at record highs.
Only 1 year since his 2nd term started, the cost of living is significantly worse.

Republicans made healthcare more expensive while being directly responsible for more people being sick, discussed here:

@vivify saidWhat a stupid ignorant post. Virtually all of the 190 countries in the world impose import duties on American goods and services, some of which are pretty high. In my country if I buy an American product for $100 US, chances are that when it arrives it will be about $200 US, + shipping and handling. The import tarrif imposed by Trump are mostly retaliatory.

@Rajk999 saidYou clearly don't understand the difference between a tariff and duty.

Tariff are rules that dictate the duty. Tariffs themselves aren't a problem, it's Trump's outrageous use of them. He just imposed a 50% percent tariff on Canada., which is the second biggest trading partner for the U.S. That will will significantly raise costs. The problem is similar for all the other tariffs, like China, third largest trading partner.
You claim they're retaliatory: on sixty different countries? For what? What reason validates making imports more expensive for America?
@vivify saidPlaying with words again. Its the same thing. Slightly different definitions, same end result.

The point is that if all the worlds nations impose significant import duties on US goods and services, then the US manufacturers can be at a considerable disadvantage when competing for a share of the international market.
Not everything is about what effect it has on your cost of living.

@Rajk999 saidDo you have evidence this is the reason for Trump's increased tariffs? That "all the world's nations" imposed "significant" tariffs on the U.S.?

@vivify saidYou can find such evidence with a simple Google search. Trump made claims that they were retaliatory tarrifs. Personally, I am not a Trump supporter neither do I suffer from TDS. What I do know is that in almost all countries, US products have to jump a pretty high tarrif barrier, putting then at a significant disadvantage. While this is justifiable during early stages of development, it is not when it goes on for decades.

@vivify saidTrump is just a puppet doing what he is told. Biden was also a puppet that did what he was told and imposed tariffs as well. Tariffs are just another tax scam to screw us all over. Both parties are our enemy. Political parties are there to divide and conquer us. That way people fight each other instead of the people screwing us all over.

We all need to come together to fight our common enemy. The other party is not our enemy. It is the people who control the parties. The RNC and the DNC are both privately owned corporations. The owners of both are our enemies.
@vivify saidTariffs are a blunt instrument. They don't target foreign countries at all--it's the domestic importer who actually pays the tax. They provoke reverse-tariffs by the other countries. Trump is either an idiot for imposing them, or there is a hidden agenda... i.e., Project 2025, with some utterly different 'world order' in the making. They published a 900-page manifesto; maybe their plan is spelled out in there somewhere, but I haven't the patience to read through it.

At one time America was considered the world "peacemaker" - ie if someone got out of order, the mere threat from America was enough to stop it or, preventing it in the first place.
You Americans who voted for Trump are going to regret it.

@moonbus saidBiden continued Trump's tariffs. Blaming one party is not a productive conversation. This is a bipartisan scam.

@Martin saidIm sure you know and this was explained to you in detail already. Here it is... Most Americans did not agree with Biden/Kamala's :
Can someone please explain to me as to how the hell Trump was elected;
- immigration policy
- sex policy in sports ie trans men participating in womens sports
- removal of Christian teachings in schools
- foreign policy esp. regarding the MidEast
- desire for a socialist state, and their alleged connection to DSA.
... and there is lots more.
