This is probably true. Current wisdom and (genetic) evidence has it that the present African population, at least in part, is directly descended from the original Homo sapien population. When we as a species moved northwards out of Africa we became real friendly with other hominid species, Neandertals and so on, with whom most of us share some genes, whereas a lot of Africans are pure Homo sapien.
