@lemon-lime saidGive it away.
What are they supposed to do with all that food if they can't get it to market?
If they let the food rot on the ground and set the animals free (run you little gubbers... go on, git outta here) how would that prevent starvation?
Unless of course the profits of the wealthy farmers are more important than starvation.

(CNN)With coronavirus severely affecting the potato supply chain, a farm in Idaho is giving away about 2 million potatoes so they don't go to waste. First come, first served...
"The response has completely blown me away," Cranney said. "People are coming from all over the place."
Cranney said he's expecting a woman from Kansas on Thursday who will have driven 19 hours. Food banks and soup kitchens are also starting to show up.
Most of the people who have come for the potatoes are doing it for others, grabbing them for friends and neighbors.
@earl-of-trumps saidOf course they had a choice. They could have fed a lot of people with that food. They CHOSE not to but instead destroyed it.
They have no CHOICE, athousandyoung.
You think they killed all those animals on a lark? C'mon, dude. That is income they will never realize. I read today, 60,000 pigs per day, KILLED. And there are similar problems with chickena and eggs.
These farmers will surely go out of business. The farmers are amongst America's poorest businessmen.

3. Stewart and Lynda Resnick
The couple has a net worth of $4 billion, made from their almonds, oranges and grapefruits grown on their own land. The family owns land in the Central Valley of California and in South Texas. Almost half of the USA purchases their products, ranging from the popular Fiji Water and Halos Mandarin Oranges to POM Wonderful. Stewart Resnick started its agricultural empire in 1978 when he bought his first farmland parcel in California. In addition to their agricultural business, the Resnicks also own a majority stake in the Kern Water Bank, which is one of the largest underground water storage facilities in California.
They don't sound that poor to me.
@earl-of-trumps saidYou yanks are all a bunch of fat fukkers anyway. A bit of a diet will do you the world of good.
'The food supply chain is breaking,' Tyson says as plants close
Cannot cut&paste from this article.
Tyson has outlined how farmers are depopulating millions of their livestock animals - chickens, pigs, cattle, due to the closure of processing facilities.
Maybe this will get Dr. Fauci's attention. Virus kills some, starvation kills many.

What the F... do they stand on the curb and holler out "FREE PIGS!!"?
You really have no clue. Broke farmers because they could not sell their livestock now must start calling food banks all over America to find out who wants free pigs!! Then they have to ship the live pigs!
You have NO F'N CLUE
Wait until all this COVID goes away, and see just how many farmers close their farms.
@earl-of-trumps saidI’m sure the capacity will remain the same it’ll be concentrated in fewer but larger hands though, which is a shame, but that is where your rugged individualism obsession becomes dysfunctional the smaller livestock and dairy farmers should be getting help on a disaster relief basis because covid is a medical, social and economic disaster.

@kevcvs57 saidRecently, the feds did give farmers, who are struggling, economic aid. Despite that, farms continued to close.

Guess how the sluts in the media wrote about it? By cherry picking a rich farmer that got aid and blowing up Trump!
whod'a thunk it, eh?
@athousandyoung saidProblems in the supply chain affect the ability to get food to poor people probably more than they affect the ability to get food to people who are willing to pay for it.

@sh76 saidNo problem, just tell them to knock on the door of Nancy Pelosi with her fabulous stash of ice cream and food!

@sh76 saidof course.

Who can take these free livestock animals and make them market ready and then ship them to - what, homeless shelters???

@athousandyoung saidThe supply chain allows farmers to grow a lot more food than is needed by friends and neighbors and people in neighboring towns. They are not our slaves or servants, they grow all that food to sell in order to support themselves and their families.
Give it away.

Farming and ranching is a business like any other business, and without a far reaching supply chain farmers would need to produce far less product and sell it for more money in order to reasonably maintain their business.
This current problem is due to broken supply chains. Even if they wanted to give it all away (this would be like you wanting to give away all of your weekly paychecks) they couldn't get rid of it all unless there was a mass exodus of people from all around the country going to the farms and ranches for their handouts.
I like to eat and not pay exorbitant prices for my food. I don't want farmers and ranchers forced into producing less and charging more for their product.
