I don't think I mentioned this before, but I used to be an office worker in a biomedical research department.

The standard practice for the articles or grant proposals the faculty would write would be to write out the full phrase of something that would subsequently be mentioned often, and to follow that immediately by the abbreviation in parentheses, e.g., "Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)."

I imagine this might be a good way for us to proceed here, given our multigenerational and multicultural composition.

Of course, we still might not get some of each other's references, but I think that providing some expansion or explanation of the abbreviations that one uses might help to some extent.
