The only thing that stopped it was Pence not agreeing with the script.
He was no angle but he stopped it from happening, much as you would be hating the fact we still have a democracy still so far anyway.

You haven't been paying attention. There was an entire extra legal process in place to replace state certified electors with trump ones. The protesters were just there to sow chaos.

No I didn't exaggerate or write the protesters were in on it. But the trump team did have a fake slate of electors ready to go. They had a legal strategy for delegitimizing the elected president and installing someone who was not elected. The protesters were just pawns to create chaos around the event I suppose.

What theory? The alt slate of electors was real. The under oath testimony of trumpwas real from aides who knew the election fraud claims were fake but kept spreading lies. The legal framework to change the outcome was written and signed by real lawyers. The phone calls pressuring election officials was on tape.

It's all real.

That happens to protestors fairly often. Sometimes there are worse consequences than what you describe. Yes it's bad I agree. Maybe we need to relax the laws.

Your minimization of the event pretends that there was not an underlying serious effort to overthrow our government. Part of that effort was disinformation about voter fraud.

Also maybe obvious but legal strategies do not necessarily support legal activities. That's up to a judge or jury to decide.

The Trump team admitted on tape, in writing, and in sworn testimony that they were working on a plan for Trump to remain president despite the state-certified electoral vote tally. That's an obvious attempt to overthrow the government. How can you see it any other way?
