Hegseth has problems for sure. Battlefield experience is not the best indicator of what it takes for the top defense job though, because it is a way different orbit than your military tours.
You are literally wrangling dozens of generals all wanting their goodies in military hardware and such and having to keep up with the intrigues of adversaries.
This is not the job for a Captain. There should be an experienced general in there at least, and a 4 star at that. That level, they know all about the politics of the office, something Hegseth would be WAY out of his league, battlefield experience or not.
I would not want to get CLOSE to that job with MY Air Force 4 years, just a grunt fixing radars and such, not a fuuking CLUE as to the politics way upstream.

Here is a prediction: Those who were pardoned will magically find they have been assigned work as guards of the people Trump has sworn to arrest by the millions and those dudes pardoned will be seen in the internment camps as Trumps personal army and will be given more and more responsible positions because Trump with his billionaire buddies all in a row at the inauguration is literally the first oligarch in US history and is following the authoritarian playbook right down the whole line.
For instance, his starting his crypto business just days before inauguration and now just so coincidentally exploding in value, a place where foreigners can dump money, bribes to get sweetheart deals, corruption right out in the open and making no bones about it.
