Debates

It strikes me that there are many on the Republican side who have hated what Trump has done to the country and America's place in the world in general. I think they will find enough senators to stand with the Democrats and initiate articles of impeachment. I think there will be enough of a quorum to remove Trump from office and clear the deck for 2028, even if they know they can't win. But I also think that Trump will exit left and resign so that Vance can pardon him, and the Trump era will be done and dusted.

If the Jan 6th impeachment wasn't enough to remove Trump, no charge will work.

I don't know what Dems could actually impeach him for this time around. Iran wouldn't make sense since U.S. presidents have a long history of war crimes, including Obama and Bush leading regime changes. So that should cancel out Venezuela.

I think MAGA was much more enamored of Trump back in the old insurrection days and I think congress was to some extent fearful of that energy. Now that Trump has been repudiated at the midterms, MAGAs influence is on the wane and the right wing has to take stock of their future post the Trump/MAGA conclave.

I think Trump is to big of a baby to ever publicly resign or admit defeat.

A President's party losing the midterms is normal. Happened to Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc. This is by no means a repudiation of Trump.

MAGAs influence is on the wane

Possibly. But keep in mind they've made invaluable gains in SCOTUS that will favor them for many years, like weakening the Voting Rights Act. SCOTUS is still in MAGA's back pocket.

The left doesn't have anyone they're as excited about as the right does with Trump. Which is sad given Bernie should've had the left's full support. In the same way Republicans moved to far right, Dems need to move more to the left. But not just the party, the people themselves.

Only then will MAGAs influence actually wane.
