The national security of Israel and Saudi Arabia, I think.
If that is the case, then that makes sense. They are allies of sorts and need gear to fight off invaders and/or terrorists.

Why are you and I paying for it?

We do, but we shouldn't. Alliances go both ways. This support goes one way.

I think aiding allies in the area can only help us in the long run with the war on terror.

I think meddling in local power struggles can only hurt us in the long run with the war on terror.

It certainly hurts my bank account.

Not giving away weapons is not "doing something". It's NOT doing something.

Do you think bribing these religious, seperatist nations will stop religious nutcases from hating the US? I doubt it.

I don't care if religious terrorist nutcases hate the US. They seem to hate everyone anyway.

Not doing something has consequences as well... especially if someone asks for help.

Just what the region needs - 60 billion dollars of new weapons. As Mark Steel points out, thats $250 for every living US citizen.

De-stabilising the Middle East certainly churns a healthy profit for the rich in the US now doesn’t it.

They create war then give all the billion dollar rebuilding contracts and arms contracts to big American companies. All-the-while the average American taxpayer pays for it.

Must be fun living in the US.

Sounds like the government is using tax dollars to create jobs for US workers... You might be right.

Maybe you want it spent on maintaining bridges properly so people don't die when they collapse.

I think this blogger makes a few good points:

Agreed. I would gladly pay 250 a year to fix bridges.

Giving away weapons made by robots does not create US jobs. You think there are WWII style assembly lines building Abrams'?
