US military aid in the Middle East is US domestic redistribution of wealth. Almost none of the $60 billion will leave the US. It certainly isn't money "lost" or "spent". It's just "moved".

I am very ignorant about such matters(and many others).

If you would please explain how this money, "is just moved."

Thanks.

If the USA grants $10,000,000,000 in "aid" to Middle Eastern Country X, it's stating the obvious when I say that Middle Eastern Country X is not then free to spend this $10,000,000,000 in the world marketplace however it chooses. The weaponry will come from one or more U.S. corporations. The U.S. corporations will pocket the $10,000,000,000 and ship the product to Middle Eastern Country X. The $10,000,000,000 need not physically leave the U.S. and I personally doubt that it does. For all intents and purposes, the $10,000,000,000 is transferred from one building in Washington DC to another building in Washington DC (figuratively speaking). The weaponry doesn't cost anything like $10,000,000,000 to produce of course. A fantastic proportion of it is almost directly pocketed by individuals (key political donors one and all, naturally) and the rest trickles down and undoubtedly benefits numerous U.S. citizens living in 'defence industry' towns and, to a degree, has an impact on prosperity there. If the U.S. Government moved $10,000,000,000 to the bank accounts of, say, 1,000,000 low income families (@ $10,000 each) living in non-'defence industry' towns (let's say it was an initiative to kindle small eneterprise or something like that) it would be roundly condemned by the U.S. Consent Manufacturing sector (ie: the lockstep commentariat and the throng of payrolled Think Tanks) as "redistribution of wealth" and, possibly, as 'communism' by stealth. But when the $10,000,000,000 is moved from a Government building in Washington DC to several corporate HQ buildings, also in Washington DC (figuratively speaking), it is, of course, NOT "redistribution of wealth". It is "aid" to the Middle East.

I think i understand, but isn't everything the Gov't spends taxpayers money on considered Redistribution of Wealth? The Gov't has none of it's own money. It's important whether the tax payers want the Gov't to spend our money on what. One way is democratic. the other is Socialistic. Something tells me i missed your point. Do i at least get a "C" grade? Is brain freeze worth any points? How can i get extra credit?
