I see, a literary reference rather than a typo, as I'd originally assumed - although entertaining either way, which was my purpose in drawing attention to it. Your point makes rather more sense now. I'm a PG Wodehouse fan in an apathetic kind of way, but the series was on after I'd basically stopped watching television and clearly never read that particular book. Something to add to my reading list.
