What do you do for a living. It is a community service I am providing.

Everytime somebody in debates asks another person "so what do you
do for a living" (very usual, unfortunately), that person can refer to this
thread and time will be saved in debates.

P.S. I am about to start the "what color are you" thread as well.

Some sort of a reference book, mate 😉

No wonder you are virtually unemployable, except as a half-wit in a call centre in Holland. Or have you been sacked from that job since you last mentioned it?

How does a person's status as a call-centre employee justify the use of the modifier 'half-wit'? The only other substantially likely possibility, that you used the phrase based on a comprehensive knowledge of shav's RHP ouvre, is eliminated by the numerous contributions he has made to the forums and to literature in general on his extensive blog.

People take jobs for all sorts of reasons, and any correlation between the perceived prestige of an occupation and the abilities of those it employs cannot be said to be large without serious qualifications, if at all.

Some people on the forums tend to take the line that the un- or underemployed are morally inferior or lazy compared to those with higher-status jobs. This view is extremely narrow, suggesting that there are no better ways to spend one's time than enriching oneself when, in the case of most people, there are.

You are a poet Royalchicken.
This is the second time you've moved me to tears.
The first was when you stood me up at the museum...

😉

But, I totally agree with you (even when it has nothing to do with me), judging a person because of the job he/she has or the difficulty one has getting employment is seriously misguided.

I'd much rather judge another based upon any ideas or concepts they hold in opposition to my iron-clad fundamentalist ideals. It makes things much easier keeping it all black-and-white.

Funnily enough, a lot of my posts are opposing the black/white attitude which prevails in the Western media and ironically enough, you use my post to vent this exact same opinion.

Am I to presume that you find me a fundamentalist?

You have misread me: I was poking fun at me (or at least, the mischaracterizations that some have laid at my feet). Please continue your diatribe.

I used to be in the bread delivery business in Baghdad, but since my Mother asked me to "shoot up the street and get us a loaf"

I took her at her word and now I'm in the lead business

Well, my plant closed so I was forced to retire in my early age. :'(

Before I retired though I was the Plant Equipment Designer. I loved my job. I was the guy the engineers came to to make their ideas work. They told me what they wanted and I contacted the vendors, ordered the equipment, made the prints and worked with the tradesmen to build it.

I guess now I'm just a has-been. 😞
