Trump came into office with a stable economy, declining interest rates, and wars winding down that had lasted 15 years. The deficits were way too high at the time. Trump promised to balance the budget. Reduce spending.
Gaetz was there. They had a mandate. Reduce government waste and spending. Get the budget under control. Give the economy back to the people.
Instead of that, they did the opposite. Deficit spending from 0.44 to 0.98 to 3 trillion. Republicans more than doubled Obummer's yearly deficits before the pandemic even hit. As debt surpassed 100% of total economic output, there was barely an objector among them. With the help of Republican-led congress, Trump signed trillions in new spending initiatives. There were vague promises about cutting discretionary spending, but they never did any of it and never really tried.
That's where the extra money in your pocket came from. You want to give him credit for that, go right ahead. Free money straight from Uncle Sam. Trump's legacy is an increased reliance of Americans on government support. Thanks for the new muffler, Trump.
For Republicans like Matt Gaetz, they're either too stupid to actually accomplish the deficit reduction policy they say they will do, or they're lying to you about actually wanting to do them.
