I was just wondering what peoples philosphies were, why they are what they are, what you believe.
I am an objectivist.
Why? Because of the fact that out of all the philosophies I've studied it is the only one that does not try to impose it's will on anyone. All other ones I have studied the writers have at some point a part of what to do with the people who disagree.
I'm an objectivist because I believe in a laize fair economy, I do not belive in any government except to act as a police force to uphold the freedoms of its citizens. I believe that people have a right to their own goals, and happyness and that no one has the right to take away anyone elses liberties or properties.
I don't believe in a higher power, nor do ask or tell someone to believe the same. All my ideas are my own and I do not wish or care that anyone shares them.
A misconception that many people have about objectivism is that we are a cold blooded group who cares nothing but ourselves, this is a inncorrect state ment.
We care and put above all else what is important to us. Wiether it be ourselves a loved one or anything that is important. We do not discourage charity as many believe be simple belive that people can and should do with their money that they earned honestly what they will. If you would wish to give to a charity we would not object, what we do object it when people force others to give charity.
I belive that people have the right to defend themselves and their values against any and all persons who wish to take it from them.
We do not belive in racism, bigotry because to put people into a group or collective is wrong, and we treat each individual as what they are an individual.
Any how I'm interested to hear what anyone else's philosphy is and why.

Originally posted by Hank ReardenI agree with ya Hank. I don't like labels, I don't use them on others and I don't accept them from others. But I think your overall philosophy is a fine one. It certainly sounds peaceful. And the world could d@mn sure use more of that.

Is that similar to Laissez-faire?
We tried that in the UK, mainly during the 19thC. The problem with Laissez-faire is that it, without fail, leads to a stratified society of haves and have-nots. That's fine if you are a have, but not so good if you are a have not. Often people who fall into the "have-not" class are not there of their own making, rather fate has dealt them a cruel hand. For example, one of my friends parents had a property investment go bad when he was a kid. They were declared bankrupt. Nowadays, they have a big, nice house, they get a new car whenever they want one. They didn't go bankrupt because they were doing anything wrong; it was simply the result of market forces. In a laissez faire environment, they would never have got back out of that economic hole, my friend would probably be working in a store somewhere, because his parents wouldn't have been able to afford to send him to university. A laissez faire society is based upon financial might equals right, making the poor constantly wrong. I could not have came as far as I have either in a laissez faire society, neither would some of today's best and brightest scientists.

That would be one seriously goofy looking head.

But yeah from what I hear buddism is a nice peaceful religion, but I still ahve to admit I'm pretty ignorant of the subject of it. Do they have like, for lake of better word a "bible" of some sort or is it mostly you have to go to a place for it?
