@philokalia saidDidn’t the Mongols rule China at one point?
Actually the general consensus was that the great wall of China totally worked.
Moreover... How didn't the Berlin wall work?
It could only be thought of as being defeated by the massive Berlin airlift operation...
... And sure, I guess the Berlin wall didn't prop up east German communism, lol

@shavixmir saidYes, but it is pointed out that the Song dynasty, which fell to the Mongols, did not even extend all the way up to the Great Wall, and thus it was not a meaningful or protective barrier that they manned and had accountability of. So, in a sense, it was not a failure at all, as the Song were never even on the wall.

Generally speaking, historians look at the effect of the Great Wall and deem it a massive success because it stopped the Mongolian cavalry from being able to effectively attack and raid China.
@philokalia saidYeah, so I guess it's too bad that we don't have an army on the border to keep out with a wall?

The post that was quoted here has been removedIt was abundantly clear that it was a quote, quit being so pedantic.
Otherwise I will pull you up for your sloppy grammar.
e.g.
Did Mchill's English teacher not tell him that ...
is far clearer than
Did his English teacher not tell Mchill that ...
where the reader is left wondering whose English teacher we are talking about!
@wolfgang59 saidFor the sake of complete accuracy, Mchill is mchill.

@suzianne saidMaybe you should go back and tell McHill that the analogy with the Great Wall doesn't work.

I'm just talking about the Great Wall, Suz. ^^
