All,

Some threads by a certain user have been closed. As is not uncommon, the user is feigning ignorance as to why and claiming "moderator corruption" even though they are fully aware as to why and have been warned by PM that some of their posting habits are unwelcome and, if continued, would result in action being taken to counter them.

In this case, a certain user has the habit of continually bumping their own threads. seeking out threads that they started and posting in them to bring them back to the top of page 1.

"Why is this a problem?" you may think. Occasional bumping of a thread when you think that it has died prematurely or has become topical again is understandable. However, threads usually have a natural life - if people are interested in them then they will post in them and they will remain on page 1. If people don't care about them then they don't post and the threads die off page 1. If one user continually bumps his own threads which have died off page 1 then by defenition he is forcing threads onto page 1 that have very little user interest, which is why this behaviour is considered detrimental to the forums.

It might not be so bad if the bump contained some attempt to revatalise the thread, but this is most often not the case. If we take this thread as an example:

www.redhotpawn.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=48454&page=6

you can see that after ~7 days of no one else posting the thread was bumped with "isn't it sad no one wanted to persue this?". On it's own this wouldn't be a problem, but if we look at this thread:

www.redhotpawn.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=48549&page=6

we can see that after 36 hours of no one posting the thread creator bumped the thread with just "no reply?". Again, on it's own not a problem, but if we look at this thread (which has now been moved to a more appropriate forum):

www.redhotpawn.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=45778&page=5

you can see that the thread creator went so far as to post the same text 9 times on one page in order to continually bump his thread - that's 60% of the posts being simply to bump the thread.

None of these instances on their own would merit action, but when it is done perpetually after being asked not to something had to be done. Therefore, threads that are being unnaturally bumped by this user, either by continually posting to himself or by resurecting them after days of inactivity, will be closed.

If you want I will post the PMs that were sent to this user, asking them to stop bumping and then warning them that action would be taken if they continued, tomorrow (when I am at work where I have the PMs filed).

Regards
BF

1. BF seems suprised that people would make posts to threads that they started. Isn't this what we all do ?

2. BF also seems suprised that there are some people, such as myself, who regularily visit RHP and will therefore inevitably have their their threads moved to the top.

3. Contrary to his claims, BF did NOT make any PM's to me regarding the specific threads he refers to :-

http://www.redhotpawn.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=48454&page=6
This thread proposed a way to global peace without violence and sought input from other visitors to RHP. My last post was "It's sad how few people were interested in this thread". My intention was to check if this was not the case but BF closed the thread.

This was a heated debate. However, contrary to claims by some, I stated that "I am saddened by the deaths of American soldiers" and went on to say that "Some 100,000 people have died in Iraq, first on the false premise of WMD's and then on the premise of getting Saddam. Why do you consider that more acceptable ?"
I made that statement at 9:32, following statements from others at 9:15, 8:45 and 8:34 that day. No-one had replied and at 22:22 the NEXT day, I posted "No reply ?" but BF closed the thread.

This sought feedback regarding your country of residence, weight and height, and explained that I would be compiling the information and presenting the results. BF moved this to the "Meet Opponents" forum. I even messaged BF to say that I understood why (I hadn't realised that forum existed). I made repeated posts as required to gather enough samples for analysis. BF now misleads you by presenting this as an example of nothing.

1. Get over what ?
2. You're so righteous whilst calling another visitor an "idiot"
3. The threads BF refers to weren't "brought back from the dead"
4. I'm not the only person protesting about this so-called "moderation"

Not if you take the time to analyse the examples that BF provided, as I have done above.

BF will say there's WMD's in Iraq next.

Ah...
But just because the user is fully aware as to the why, doesn't mean that it isn't moderator corruption...

Sambo,

As admirable as it is that you feel so passionately over issues such as this, have you ever considered refining your methods? I mean, you have a message that you want to be heard but maybe you should post in a different way - one that won't get so many people's backs and lead to the closure of threads?

Sure. Refer to the first two links above.

Yeah, but ive seen some of your posts. Phrases such as "George Bush is corrupt...", "violence leads to violence" etc repeated regularly on different posts isnt going to endear you to anyone. Further, they hardly add to the debate, as and incitefulness or discussion value they might have is diminished by their constant repetition (also see - "why has this thread been closed?" posts).

That doesn't mean that I should be treated differently.

For example, here's a recent post from someone else that you have to question the value ...

"Does that make sambo69 a love sandwich? And does that mean we can refer to you as RHP's very own love muffin? BTW when I was growing up Sambo were packets of crisps, which would mean that there are people willing to bend over backwards to ensure that they say goodbye to Mr Chips"

Regarding the "Why has this thread been closed" threads, each one refers to a different thread that may have been closed for different reasons.

Taking aside people's personal views of you, you are trying to get across a message, arent you? Wouldnt you say that the validity of that message is tarnished by your methods. While standing down and admitting you were wrong to do thing a certain way is difficult to do, isnt your message more important that your ego? Thus, change your style, be more persuasive and you will have more success.

If others want to degenerate these forums into personal slanging matches (which people sadly seen to want to do frequently) let them. The less controversy you as a poster attract, the better it is for what you are trying to say. If that makes sense.

I have asked myself the value of your posts. The point is that you do not actually try and engage anyone in debate other that to proclaim(from your perspective at least) self evident truths. I dont have a problem that you believe that you are right, but you spend an awfull lot of time whinging about how we dont get it and how unfairly you are treated.

So what should anyone do other than mock, ridicule and pillory your posts?

You are incorrect. See the first thread referred to with a link above.

This regarded ways for global peace without violence. Did you contribute anything to that thread ???

Could it be that people such as yourself protest against my ways because you wish to silence the message ?
