The reason is that they know that its a safe speed (given ...[text shortened]... g the 55 MPH speed limit. So its impractical for the govt to impose a max speed on all vehicles.
i inched past a highway patrolman in texas who was driving the speed limit. he pulled me over and gave me a warning.

It is NOT true to say that ALL countries have spped limits. Hell even Montana in the US repealed their speed limits for a while in the late 90's.

In the US desert, Nevada I think, there wasn't a speed limit until recently.

The point here is that since it's up to each state/province/country to set their own speed limits, it's too restrictive to say to auto manufactures to restrict the speeds on cars.

Hell, speed limits are increasing with time anyway. Frickin texas has an 85 mph speed limit!

True, while speed is a factor in crashes, it pales in comparison to the effects of judgment errors, the use of substances which may impair your judgement, poor conditions on the road not being taken into account, not following road signs etc.
I think it's fine for a car manufacturer to make cars that go very fast; if the person driving it is the type of person who makes judgement errors like speeding it in conditions that are innappropriate, then it's the persons judgement, not the car at fault.
Your question is tantamount to saying that anywhere that serves drink is not allowed to have a car park.
I'm sorry, but there comes a time when the driver has to take responsibility for their actions rather than the manufacturer.

The Bugatti Veyron 16 -- Powered by a 1,001 PS (987 hp/736 kW) W16 engine -- Top speed of 408.47 km/h (253.81 mph)

And what's wrong with that? Absolutely nothing!...so much for limits. 😀

I read something a few years ago about speed signs transmitting data to a governor in the car, keeping them below the speed limit.
Obviously not practical to make everyone own one, but it may be a good idea to make them mandatory to those who lose their license due to speeding violations.

Now something that looks very promising. Recently I viewed video presentation of electric autos and Tesla was in the group and I fell in love. They have a website with photos. You can believe the 0 – 60 time…the aceleration was shown in the video and it literally leapt down pavement. Can you say Ferrari?

* Electric auto, as beautiful as Lotus.
* 220 miles per charge.
* £2 cost per charge.
* Full charge 3.5 hours
* 0 – 60 mph time, 4 seconds!!
* Top speed 125 mph!!
* Price £49000

Really good part (you guessed it – no surprise here) not developed by government. Yes indeed, one of those evil corporations! 🙂 More of this and I will join Greenpeace...Not! Just kidding. 🙂
