@Soothfast saidYou ask a silly question. You’re asking why we don’t assess how these people amassed so much money. They did so by providing goods and services. You yourself enjoy these goods and services. If it were not for these companies, we would be I guess like Venezuela.?
Yes, it is very unhealthy.
We should question why such a small number of citizens were able to amass so much money that the modest percentage they pay in income tax amounts to 50% of the total.
So I answered your silly question. Now I ask you a question. Where would we be today? If we did not have these genius, innovators and entrepreneurs?
@Soothfast saidWould you believe people think, some whom are actually on this forum, that people like Bezos and musk and other rich people have their net worth in cash in a vault somewhere. Bezos does not have $200 billion, he has 200 billion worth of assets , some of which is not liquid. Geez
P.S. Musk is no longer a trillionaire. The wildly overvalued SpaceX has come back down to earth.

The company is still insanely overvalued.

Track it live here. Amazing he was ONLY worth $350 billion last year.
Now, he's not a trillionaire, but he is still more than $100 billion richer than he was 3 months ago.
@wildgrass saidLet’s discuss it. My neighbor found a 1939 Maserati in his uncle’s garage, and sold it for $3 million. Should something be done about ithat?

Asking for a friend...
@Soothfast saidI’m nothing of a sort. When you people who are so worried about other people’s money keep harping on their money, someone like me is trying to expose your conflicts.

Taylor Swift has billions, tiger has billions, Bezos has billions. You fellows pick and choose who you don’t like that has billions.
So you have this guy who happens onto a car, and pockets $3 million, why is that OK but other people who make money is not OK. Or, do you think that some people should not make ‘ as much ‘ as they make. So let’s open up this discussion.
@wildgrass saidSee??? Read Soothfast just above. What is the point? Wgrass is trying to

Make?!?!?!? What is it?? Please one of the forthright amongst you…….please, what is your deal?
No more free rein for entrepreneurs and Musks of the world? There is a guy at MIT today who may invent cure for cancer and a Time Machine in the next 4 years. What if you choke him off???
Hello? Anyone there?
@AverageJoe1 saidI dunno man. I'm a huge fan of the profit motive, but this is insanely out of whack with that.

The proposals I've seen to tax wealth would not choke profit motive at any level. Do you think Musk would actually work less hard if he had to pay taxes on his wealth like the rest of us have to pay income taxes?
@AverageJoe1 saidThe proposal to tax wealth would not kick in until the wealth gets outrageous, and would only tax a penny of dollar. So Bezos and Swift would still remain billionaires.

@wildgrass saidYou bring up a side question.... One that has been asked of you often. Define outrageous, can you tell us how much money is just about enough for these people to make. There was a time when Bernie said $250,000. I asked this question merely as a feature, not to get off of the main issue. Just for entertainment purposes maybe now is the time for an answer to that.age- old question on the Forum.

@AverageJoe1 saidBernie was probably talking about income, not wealth.

Wealth concentration is a bad thing. Point blank. More people should be wealthy, not fewer. When fewer and fewer people are accumulating wealth, there is no other way to interpret it than that they have an opportunity advantage over others. It's governments job to make that opportunity advantage go away.
@wildgrass saidOne cent.

One cent, taxed on $1T, would render $10B to the government.
That would leave Musk with NINE HUNDRED NINETY BILLION dollars.
Please answer, is it ok with you and Bernie and everyone in between that he keeps his $990B?
@AverageJoe1 saidYes. That's ok. If the billionaires paid taxes like the rest of us pay taxes, there'd be a lot less resentment in society about their existence.

@wildgrass saidI’m with you. So it would follow that if he has all that money, and pays very little income tax, as does Warren Buffett, who I think pays 11 or 12%, is that OK with you?
Yes. That's ok. If the billionaires paid taxes like the rest of us pay taxes, there'd be a lot less resentment in society about their existence.
We are getting somewhere!! I think it is ok, myself.
