: As a person that I grew up under "SOVIET UNION" in military school,I know exactly what 'PUTIN" thinks and what he aims for.That is to reinstall the "SOVIET UNION". No country from western Europe attached Russia,He killed all the opposition that stood in his way.He invaded Ukraine after he annexed CRIMEA.He wants Ukraine to be Russia's puppet just like Belarus.

Neither that nor NATO Bucharest's Declaration in 2008 (where it was stated Ukraine would eventually be a NATO member https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/official_texts_8443.htm at paragraph 23) poised any imminent threat to Russia in February 2022. If that's the only excuse you can come up with for the invasion, it dismally fails the requirements of international law including the UN Charter which Russia has accepted.

US policy towards Russia has been overly hostile since the fall of the USSR IMO but that does not change the fact that Putin started this war, not Ukraine.

Does it matter who started the war? Every invader justifies their invasion in some way. They have WMDs. He is a horrible dictator even though MBS is our friend.

Russia is fighting those horrible Nazis in Ukraine. That is their excuse. Every invader has their reasons so they say even if no WMDs were found. Why is one BS excuse better than another when you know fully well NATO expansion started it. You argued that yourself on this forum.

Zelensky knows if elections are held he would lose so he has to continue the war to cling onto power. The only thing preventing elections in Ukraine is the war. That is why Zelensky wants the killing to never end. Millions of Ukrainians have already died so he can stay in power.

It clearly violates the UN Charter, which Russia has agreed to:

"3. All Members shall settle their international disputes by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security, and justice, are not endangered.

4. All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations."
